Scarlett Johansson against the Golden Globes: “I’m a sexist organization”

During a recent interview with The Wrap, Scarlett Johansson has lashed out at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization made up of professional journalists who represent the US film industry outside the US and which annually awards the prestigious awards Golden Globes.

The Johansson defined the organization in question as “sexist” and for this reason it will no longer participate in the press conferences that it regularly organizes every year on the occasion of the awards ceremony.

“HFPA is an organization that has been empowered by the likes of Harvey Weinstein to build momentum for Academy recognition. As an actress promoting a film, attending the organization’s press conferences and awards programs hO often meant addressing sexist questions and remarks from some HFPA members that they bordered on sexual harassment. Unless fundamental reform is needed within the organization, I believe it is time to take a step back from HFPA e focus on the importance and strength of unity within our unions and industry in general.

Johansson’s is not an isolated sortie in recent days even Netflix had declared its intention to distance itself from the HFPA if the organization is not reorganized. The streaming giant has gained over the years a notable impact on the Golden Globes given that in the last year alone the nominations attributed to it have been 42, 6 of which went to the prize.

We will see Johansson again in the standalone film Black Widow, probably in her last appearance as Black Widow. The film is a prequel and is set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The film will hit theaters and on Disney + with VIP Access in July.
