The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) reported that this Monday a flight with oncological medications will arrive in Mexico City, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, due to the global shortage, including Mexico.
"The flow and supply of cancer drugs It is a global problem and our country has been affected by the scarcity of the national and international market. Added to the above is the reduced connectivity of flights caused by the health contingency, "said the IMSS in an official statement.
For this reason, the institute successfully managed a drug flight.
Likewise, to guarantee that the drugs meet the necessary quality requirements, the Federal Commission for the Prevention of Health Risks (Coffepris) will carry out a review “rigorous, safe and expeditious sanitary”, So that the institute can supply its medical units in the coming days.
Similarly, he said that while this sanitary process is being carried out, and In order to guarantee the attention to the right to health, the IMSS has implemented different strategies. Among them, the distribution of oncological keys between representations andstate and high specialty medical units.
In this sense, and after the arrival of the flight, the IMSS will redistribute the oncological keys between state representations and the highly specialized medical units, according to inventories and verifying local needs to define how, how much and when to redistribute the drugs.
Another measure, he indicated, is the possibility of generating subrogation with private hospitals and the rescheduling of appointments where possible.
"At all times the IMSS has fostered coordination between public institutions as the mechanism to find the best solutions. In the purchase of medicines we have worked closely with the Health Sector and with the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit to have the supply in the amounts required and agreed at the sector coordination tables, "he said.
Finally, regarding the consolidated purchase of oncology drugs, The IMSS announced that in the coming days they will be delivered to the central warehouses.
It should be remembered that on May 6, the Mexican Association of Pediatric Oncohematology claimed the shortage of 37 medications, which for months has caused complaints from parents.

The agency collected information on 97 Ssa, state and IMSS hospitals, where there is a shortage of one or more medications, which blocks treatments, since chemotherapies are mixtures of several drugs that are prepared in advance.
Given this, Manuel Camargo, Fourth District Judge in Administrative Matters, ordered the SHCP's Senior Officials - in charge of controlling consolidated drug purchases -, and the Health Secretaries inform and clarify the availability of medicines and essential supplies for cancer treatments.
He also ordered to report how the flow of medicines is guaranteed, from purchase to delivery to hospitals, since the current Government eliminated the traditional procedure, by which the distribution companies allegedly obtained the product and distributed it.
It is worth mentioning that in September 2019, The Government implemented an operation that even involved the Secretary of the Navy to traer from France 38 thousand 200 units of Methotrexate, which would cover the remaining months of that year. However, the shortage continues.
