Agatha: Coven of Chaos Season 1 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything You Need to Know

Agatha: Coven of Chaos Season 1 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything You Need to Know

WandaVision, Marvel’s first Disney Plus show, was great for a lot of reasons. Kathryn Hahn’s performance as Agatha Harkness, a charismatic and yet evil witch who tries to steal Wanda’s power, was one of them. Agatha fans were happy when Marvel said Hahn would be in a spinoff series called Agatha: Coven of Chaos (formerly titled Agatha: House of Harkness).

Since the show is just starting to be made, Marvel has kept quiet about most of the specifics, but some have started to leak out. Hahn said that filming would start at the end of November or the beginning of December 2022 in an interview just at Chicago International Film Festival.

Inside the video, Hahn asserts that playing Agatha in WandaVision as well as Coven of Chaos is “very, very exciting.” She continues to say, “We’re gathering the coven, and it’s going to be extremely tasty. In about a month, we’ll start filming.”

Agatha was recognised as Agnes during WandaVision, and she lived next to Wanda inside the city of Westview. Even though Wanda and Agnes appear to be best friends, Agatha’s true past and goals soon become clear. During the Salem Witch Trials, Agatha was part of the a coterie in Salem, Massachusetts.

In 1693, her coven planned to kill her for practising magic spells, a practice they had told her was wrong. Instead of having to face the punishment, Agatha killed this same members of her coterie who were at her trial. Then she kills her mother, Evanora, who is played by Kate Forbes, and flies away.

Agatha had studied magic for hundreds of years, so she was angry when she saw Wanda’s natural skill at it. She was also very jealous of how Wanda could control Westview without even realising it. After a battle of magic as well as wits, Wanda cursed Agatha to spend the remainder of her life playing Agnes and being stuck in Westview.

In the comics, however, Agatha’s past is a little different. Since the 1970s, Agatha Harkness is a part of Marvel Comics. She is an important part of how the Maximoff twins are raised and trained.

Agatha acts as a mentor and teacher to Wanda all through the comics, but she dies at the hands of Wanda after she finds that out her children were not real. Wanda has talked to and been friends with Agatha’s ghost, and in some recent stories, Agatha has even come back to life.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos Season 1 Release Date

The show used to be called Agatha: House of Harkness, but the name was changed. The new name was revealed at Marvel’s 2022 San Diego Comic-Con panel, together with a few other production details.

Since filming has just started and the exhibition is still in its early stages, it’s hard to say much about when it will come out. The SDCC panel did confirm, though, that the series will come out in the winter of 2023, so we can hope to see Agatha as well as her fellow witches back on the screen for Halloween.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos Season 1 Cast

As with most Marvel properties, this same people working on Coven of Chaos haven’t said much about who will play which characters on the show. Still, in the past few weeks, a lot of new stars were confirmed to work with Hahn.

One of the new actors is Joe Locke, who was in the movie Heartstopper. Fans have been speculating a lot about why Locke was chosen. Fans have thought that he might be playing an old copy of Billy, Wanda’s reality-bending son, but this has not been confirmed.

Aubrey Plaza, who used to be on Parks and Recreation, has been confirmed as a member of Coven of Chaos cast. Like Locke’s role, we don’t know who she might be playing yet.

Recent reports say that Orange Is the New Black stars Ibrahim Ahn and Maria Dizzia also are set to join the cast. Their roles are still unknown, but fans think they might play witches who were piece of Agatha’s original coven. Sasheer Zamata, who was on Saturday Night Live, is also said to have joined the Coven. Zamata’s role on the show has yet to be confirmed, like other recent casting announcements.

Now, we know for sure that Emma Caulfield Ford, who played Westview resident Dottie on WandaVision, will be back. We don’t know exactly how she will be back, but we’re still excited! In an interesting twist, Dottie is also recognised as Sara Proctor, that is the name of a real witch who was locked up in during Salem Witch Trials in 1692.

Could this be sign of what’s to come for Dottie in the MCU? We’ll have to see what happens. Ford told Entertainment Tonight that Seems in “could likely level up a little bit” in her personal life. Adding, “I have no idea what I am. Maybe I’m really great.”

In more recent casting news, It has been confirmed that That ’70s Show star Debra Jo Rupp, who did play Mrs. Hart, a Westview resident, in WandaVision, will also play the same role in the new show. Like Ford, no one knows for sure what her role is. A role for Broadway star Patti LuPone in Coven of Chaos has also not been revealed.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos Season 1 Trailer

We have no teaser for Coven of Chaos yet, which is too bad. During 2022 SDCC panel, Marvel actually showed both the improved and updated logo and the new title.

Set photos and interviews with the cast will help us learn concerning the general storyline and the roles of the actors as filming goes on. We can’t wait to see Hahn and the rest of the cast in their roles until then. If you haven’t already, you might want to watch the clip for “Agatha All Along”:

Agatha: Coven of Chaos Season 1 Plot

When Agatha: Coven of Chaos first was announced, some people thought it was a prequel to WandaVision, since Agatha has been around for at least a few hundred years. But now that Dottie is back, it’s a lot more likely that the show will pick up in which WandaVision left off.

Just at finish of WandaVision, Agatha has been trapped under Wanda’s control and doomed to always play Agnes, the nosy neighbour. But because of what happened in Doctor Strange with in Multiverse of Madness, Wanda’s spell may break and Agatha will be free.

Will Agatha look for Wanda or the Darkhold, just to find that the Darkhold was already destroyed? Will we learn what occurred to Wanda on Mount Wundagore? These two questions might be important to the storyline of Coven of Chaos.

Also, there’s the issue of the coven. Hahn talked about “getting the coven together” at the Chicago International Film Festival. Who is part of that group? Could Dorothy turn into a witch? Would it be a mistake for Billy to work with Agatha? We’ll have to see what happens.

No, there are no details available yet on Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Under its old name, Agatha: House of Harkness, Marvel said that the show would “show more about the character who was first introduced in Marvel Studios’ WandaVision. “Jac Schaefer is back for Agatha: House of Harkness. He was the head writer as well as executive producer for WandaVision. Hide all dogs with the name Sparky.”

Just at time of writing, there are no additional plot points that are known for sure. In WandaVision, it was shown that she was the cause of Wanda’s pain and the one in charge of her reality in Westview. She was attracted to Wanda’s high level of authority and wanted it for herself. A last time we has seen her, woman was sentenced to spend the remainder of her life locked up within her own skin as psycho stalker Agnes, so it’s likely we’ll catch up to her attempts to break free.

But The Illuminerdy says that Coven of Chaos would then select up right where WandaVision left off and actually occur in Westview. The spell which Wanda put on Agatha will be broken by a new group of witches, among whom, according to reports, is Aubrey Plaza.

Fans of WandaVision are hoping that Agatha’s character will have some musical parts in this new show. The song “Agatha All Along” by WandaVision went to the top of the charts and quickly became a fan favourite. It looks like this new show will be the same, which is good news. Hahn even hinted that Coven of Chaos could include more songs for people to get stuck throughout their heads.
