Star Wars, why is Darth Vader so strong in Rogue One?

The brief but intense appearance of Darth Vader is certainly one of the high points of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: Some fans, however, have noticed an unclear detail relating to the difference between the character seen in the 2016 film and the one who appeared in the previous films of the franchise.

The Darth Vader seen in Rogue One is in fact a villain, if possible, even stronger than the one seen in the various Episode IV, Episode V and Episode VI: in the film by Gareth Edwards our man even manages to handle the lightsaber with one hand, using that free to use the Force.

A very different situation from the one seen, for example, during the duel with Obi-Wan in Episode IV, during which Vader appeared, albeit always very fearsome, definitely more awkward or, in any case, certainly not skilled to the point of using the lightsaber with one hand. A contradiction, if we think that the events of Rogue One obviously take place before those of the classic trilogy, don’t you think?

This could actually be explained looking at opponents by Vader: in Rogue One the late Anakin Skywalker is in fact facing enemies well below his capabilities, which is why it is reasonable to think that ours feels safe to the point of juggling with such ease. The situation changes when the opponent bears the name of Obi-Wan Kenobi, of whose abilities Palpatine’s right-hand man is aware enough to know that facing him with such ease would practically be suicide.

Do you find this explanation satisfactory or continue to think there is a texture hole? Tell us yours in the comments! Meanwhile, let’s find out how Lucasfilm brought Grand Moff Tarkin back to life for Rogue One.
