Barbarians Storyline

Barbarians, originally Barbaren – in German is a historical war drama series of German origin. It happens to be one of the series which has been turned into a fictional story based on the Roman Empire’s occupation of Germania. And as the result, there was a rebellion followed by a rebellion led by Germanic tribes and the leader was the Arminius.

Barbarians Season 1 Storyline

The storyline of the first season revolves around the time of 9 AD and the part after that. It was when the Roman occupation of Magna Germania was in the power. For twenty years, the Romans have been occupying the surrounding region and there were many Germanic tribes that were oppressed by the empire’s heavy taxes.

To overcome that, there were many united fronts led by many tribal chiefs and more. Some of them even prosed to have a peaceful rule but that was not going to happen.

As a token of peace offering, Arminius was given away along with his little brother Flavus to the Romans. Hence there was a sense of peace for a long time between their tribe and the Romans. He happens to be the child of Segimer.

He then returned to the Germania in order to help their foster father to maintain the peace order. When he saw all the wrongdoings by Roman soldiers on his former tribe, he became the Chieftain of the Cherusci tribe and started the rebellion. He was joined by the daughter of Segetes – Thusnelda and his two childhood best friends.

These battles and rebellion incidents are said to occur around 9 AD and there was a huge ambush of around 15000 Roman legions in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. After knowing about the shameful defeat and shock of his adopted son’s actions, Varus committed suicide.

Barbarians Season 2 Storyline Expectations

According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the storyline of the second season will be set in the time after the Varus Battle, approximately a year later than that timeline. The Romans troops, in huge numbers, have finally returned to Germania and are stronger than ever after losing such a huge battle. Ari will be repeatedly confronted with his Roman past and will be in it for quite some time.

As everyone is seeing it as a “betrayal”, his brother has joined hands with the Roman side and wants to punish his brother for betraying the Romans. On the other hand, Ari along with Thusnelda are trying to unite as many tribes as possible to stand against the Romans. While everything is happening, all at once, there is Folkwin who goes on making a sinister challenge to the Gods.

The official plot from the makers sounds absolutely fascinating and fans can not wait until the release of the series. Everyone is speculating about the possible storyline and what could happen amongst the tribe and the leading characters.

The King and the Queen?

After winning such an epic battle, looks like there is a strong possibility of Thusnelda and Arminius being the Queen and the King of the tribe. But as we all know, there are many others who seek to have the power of being the King, but not everyone deserves that.

The War is not Over Yet

Losing is not a big thing for the Romanians when they can still fight many upcoming battles! Looking it over from the historical standpoint, there are going to be many many more fights between various enemies.

As Arminius is trying his best to unite all the tribes and remove Romans east of the Rhine, there are chances that the Emperor of Rome himself, Tiberius will be making his move by organizing a secret army against Arminius.
