Barbie Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything You Need to Know
Warner Bros. is now an official Barbie fan, and the web is already full of Barbie stuff. Twitter and TikTok are full of real-time updates about how the movie is being made. The main filming will start in England in March 2022. Filming took place all over Los Angeles, and when famous actors showed up on Venice Beach, a lot of people were interested.
People can get near and personal with the film’s inner workings because the set is open. Scenes are already picked apart and decoded, and meme culture won’t let go of something that’s going to be unpredictable.
Barbie here is, people. She is twenty feet tall. The first Barbie trailer was finally released this Friday morning. If you didn’t see the dozens of neon-colored set photos from the summer, Greta Gerwig’s latest film is Barbie, which she and her partner, Noah Baumbach, wrote together. Ryan Gosling, with his wretched platinum blonde hair, will play Ken, and Margot Robbie will play Barbie, or at least one of the Barbies.
The trailer starts with a funny reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey as we learn how the American doll industry went from making babies to making Barbies. Then we see Robbie, Gosling, Issa Rae, as well as Simu Liu acting silly in Gerwig’s dreamscape, but only for a few seconds.
We can’t wait to see what happens when the movie comes out in theatres next year. In the meantime, check out the trailer below and keep reading to find out everything you want to know about the upcoming Barbie movie.
Barbie, starring Margot Robbie as well as Ryan Gosling, has been one of the most anticipated movies ever since it was announced. Even though the first photos were sufficient to get people excited, the first teaser for Greta Gerwig’s satirical drama about Barbie’s life has made everyone even more eager to see what it has to offer.
Barbie Release Date
The first Barbie movie will be shown in theatres on July 21, 2023. So not lengthy now! On the same day, Christopher Nolan’s film Oppenheimer will also come out, so memes have started popping up about how distinct the two films look.
Barbie Cast
Other additions to the cast, besides Barbie and Ken, will make you even more excited to see the movie. Will Ferrell as the CEO of a toy company, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, America Ferrera, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Emerald Fennell, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Sharon Rooney, Anna Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, Connor Swindells, Jamie Demetriou, and Marisa Abela.
Kyle Buchanan of The New York Times said in a series of tweets from May that Robbie, as well as Gosling, aren’t the only people in the live-action movie who look like Barbie and Ken. The reporter went on to explain that Issa Rae and Hari Nef would play different versions of Barbie, while Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa will indeed play multiple variations of Ken.
Although none of the performers above have confirmed that they are inside the proposal, Liu did mention in an interview with the Independent that getting his body shaved for Barbie was among the most painful things he had to do on set.

Barbie Plot
Aside from the first promotional photos, which came out in June 2022, and the first teaser towing, most of what people know about the movie comes from social media. Photos of Robbie, as well as Gosling rollerblading in Los Angeles and photos of their first scenes together, have led to a lot of rumors.
As Barbie’s first live-action movie, it’s unlikely to be like the animated movies fans have seen. We don’t know when the movie will take place or what kind of genre it will be.
In December 2022, the first sneak peek of Barbie came out. It remembered the classic science fiction movie 2001: A Space Odyssey by casting Margot Robbie as the famous doll. The trailer starts with a voiceover, and you can see kids playing with dolls in a dusty desert, just like in the first action sequences of Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 movie.
“Dolls have existed from the start of time or when the first little girl was born. The voice-over says, “But the dolls are still and also only baby dolls until…” We can’t be sure of this. We do know, though, that there will be some twists and the movie probably won’t be a simple, fluffy one like Barbie Life inside the Dreamhouse.
Robbie confirmed this when he talked to The Hollywood Reporter. “People immediately think, ‘Oh, Margot is going to play Barbie, I know what it is,'” she said. “But our primary objective is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give the user something completely different—the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'”
Mackey, who has worked on Sex Education as well as Death on the Nile, has confirmed that the movie does have more than one Barbie. Mackey told Empire about a sleepover that the Barbie cast had, which has fans talking. “Right from the start, we had a slumber party for the Barbies, and Scott Evans and Ncuti Gatwa would come over to play games,” she said.
She said more about Barbie later: “Barbie is light, funny, silly, American, and pink.” You don’t have to worry, it won’t cause you to weep. Mackey said, “It’s very strange in a lot of ways.”
I think people will have a concept of what the movie will be like, and I don’t think it will be that. It will come as a shock. And, thank God, it’s funny. No tears in this movie! I’ll tell you something. Don’t cry! It was wonderful to do an American comedy that was just pure.”
