1 Died and 5 Injured as Crane Collapsed in Dallas

At least one person has reportedly died and about five people sustained varying degrees of injuries as a crane collapsed in Dallas on Sunday.

The Dallas Fire-Rescue department, through its spokesman, Jason Evans, said the crane fell on an already inhabited building, Elan City Lights, an apartment complex in the city.

The unfortunate accident claimed the life of one person while five others are currently receiving medical attention. Two of the injured victims are said to be in critical condition.

The crane was erected at a construction site and obviously collapsed due to the severe winds that hit the city yesterday. The wind was said to be traveling at 75 mph accompanied by large hails that are 2-inches in diameter.

The building’s easternmost side was badly affected by the collapsed crane. It was at this side that the corpse and the injured people were found after a careful search of the entire building with trained police dogs.

A multilevel garage also felt the impact of the fall. Mr. Evans wasn’t sure whether people were trapped in vehicles badly damaged by the crane.

He said: “We have no idea at this point whether any people were in those cars or just in that parking garage in general.”

The inclement weather also threw thousands of people into darkness in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Oncor, the electricity company serving the area said that some 300,000 people in the vicinity have been experiencing power outages after the destructive winds struck.
