Our Take: The inaugural episode of The Iliza Shleshinger Sketch Series gives off the impression that the sketches were rushed before being converted to digital format.
Even though the program is just 20 minutes long, it seems as if certain skits were given far longer than they warranted, while others seemed to miss the mark entirely.
Take the nectarine conference sketch as an example. It’s slightly over 3 minutes long, but it seems much longer due to the fact that the whole time is spent on Iliza and her suit-clad cast attempting to spout corporate jargon while eating (and hurling) nectarines. Iliza’s character even admits as much to the other participants in the conference call at one point.
Is she making fun of the stuffiness of corporate gatherings? Is she joking about how nectarines stain everything they touch? It’s not clear to us at this time.
The length of the other drawings was excessive. We’ve already established that the Cashew Air sketch had no purpose other than to make Iliza appear like a mix between Gorton’s fisherman & Captain McCallister from The Simpsons.
