Ernest initially has no idea about the “King” or his plans, but he has a sneaking suspicion that the “King” and his interactions with the Osage people are not what they seem. Ernest soon realizes that the King’s bigger scheme has toxic components that, when necessary, include mayhem, fire, and murder.
Ernest allows himself to be influenced since he can’t seem to get rid of the “King” as a family member. One of the Osage ladies, Mollie, requests Ernest to start driving her cab, and he develops feelings for her.
He is encouraged to love her and wed her by the “King”.
