An extensive Adivasi rite at a temple to a ghost they name the “Betaal” sets the tone for the film. An old lady who is able to communicate with the dead touch the statue of the “Betaal” at their temple.

As a result, she is able to have visions of the potential outcomes should the “Betaal” be released from the tunnel it has been imprisoned in since the time of the British East India Company. She urges the citizens to prevent the tunnel from being activated.

Outside of the hamlet, Mudhalvan, his wife, Shakuntala, & his small daughter, Saanvi, are planning to transform the community and the surrounding region into a building site.

The deadlines must be met quickly so that the project may be officially opened when the CM comes. Mudhalvan has given orders for Commandant Tyagi & the Baaz Squad to remove land in a rural community nearby the Betaal Mountain in preparation for a highway construction project. The Adivasi people are stubbornly staying there when the squad finally arrives.

Baaz Squad burns down the houses after forcefully removing the people, and then destroys the whole settlement. The peasants hide at the tunnel’s mouth and defend it with medieval weapons and old plows.

Vikram insists that they vacate the tunnel opening so that it may be cleared for construction. When the villagers refuse to leave, Vikram & the Baaz Squad are hesitant to shoot on them.

Mudhalvan’s henchman, Bhunnu, surreptitiously triggers a bomb set at the tunnel entrance, deceiving Tyagi & Vikram into thinking it is an assault by the locals. The Baaz Squad wipes out the hamlet with the exception of a lady called Puniya & her husband named Sarpanch.

Some construction workers enter the tunnel once it has been cleaned, and soon they hear cries emanating from inside. One of the men is disemboweled, but he manages to stagger outside of the tunnel before he dies.

Baaz Squad, fearing that Naxalites are hiding within, tries to seal the tunnel, but suffers significant casualties in the process. Both Tyagi and Haq have been hurt and need to be transported.

The villagers, Baaz Squad, and Mudhavalan’s family are all forced to evacuate as a horde of zombie British troops emerges from the cave. Puniya and Sarpanch hide themselves in some abandoned British barracks.

Mudhalvan’s wife is slain when he and the Baaz Squad break down the door. Tyagi’s whitened hair and odd behavior come as Haq’s wounds take their toll.

The group is suddenly and completely shut off from the outside world when they discover that their communications and electrical devices have broken down.

The government has decided to construct a highway, and construction on the road must start immediately. When Vikram Sirohi and Ahluwalia, his deputy, come on the field with their teammates, they find that it conceals more than it reveals. After that, they find out a lot more regarding the curse and the ways in which the tribe is fighting back against the evil.

This is the tale of Officer Tyagi and his elite task unit. The Baaz Squad is the official name of this special operations group. This force has been delivered to the interior of Chhattisgarh in an effort to liberate the region from Naxal control.

The government has agreed to build a highway, and this means that road building must begin immediately. Vikram Sirohi, second in authority, with his deputy Ahluwalia, arrives the ground together with his squad to learn that it has more to conceal than disclose. As time goes on, they learn more and more regarding the curse and the manner in which the tribal society is protecting itself.
