History of the World, Part II Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything You Need to Know

Mel Brooks is a well-known director, writer, producer, but also actor. He is also 96 years old, but that didn’t stop “Torquemada” from getting back on the horse for History of the World Part II (2023). The comedy legend has been making people laugh out loud for decades with movies like The Producers (1967), Blazing Saddles (1974), Young Frankenstein (1974), Spaceballs (1987), and more.

History of the World: Part I (1981) was one of Brooks’s most famous and ambitious projects. It was an anthology film in which Brooks played different characters from different times, such as a hold philosopher from Ancient Rome, a talented inquisitor from the Spanish Inquisition, as well as a pervy king from the French Revolution.

So although “Part I” is included in the name of the movie, Brooks claimed that the subtitle had been a joke and that the short sizzle reel just at end of the movie that hinted at a sequel was never going to be made. When History of a World Part II comes out at the end of the year, all of that will change.

Brooks’s first History of the World, Part I, took a funny look at several important events in history. The Stone Age, the Roman Empire, the Spanish Inquisition, and the French Revolution were just some of these times.

Each era was shown as a short scene that made fun of classic epic movie tropes. Also, there were a few short skits that made fun of the Old Testament, especially Moses as well as the Ten Commandments.

Even though “Part I” was a big part of the movie’s name, there were no proposals for a second part. That is until Hulu tried to order a sequel series 40 years later, and Brooks, who is now 96 years old, was scheduled to return to produce and write it. History of the World Part II is coming, just like Mel Brooks said it would (just 40 years after Part I). History of the World Part II was first announced as a TV show in late 2021. It was a continuation of a historical spoof that Mel Brooks did in his 1981 movie. Fans will remember that at the end of History of the World Part I, there was a sneak peek at some of the things that might be in Part II.

Brooks is the writer as well as executive producer of The History of the World Part II, which is being called a variety show with sketches that make fun of famous historical events. Along with Brooks, well-known comedians like Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen are also part of the writing team.

The first episode of History of the World, Part II will air on March 6, 2023. Over four days, each of the two episodes will be released.

History of the World, Part II Cast

Brooks’s original epic starred a large group of some of the biggest stars of the time. Brooks played a lot of different characters, like Moses as well as King Louis XVI. Sid Caesar, Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, as well as Cloris Leachman were among the other stars who played different roles. Even the director of Citizen Kane, Orson Welles, was on board to tell each story.

Part II will have a smaller cast, but it won’t be any less impressive. Brooks will be back in the cast, in addition to writing and making the show. That’s a tough job for anybody in the show biz, especially for someone nearing their 100th birthday. History of the World Part II will start with information about the Civil War general and US president Ulysses S. Grant, the Russian Revolution, Shakespeare’s writer’s room, Shirley Chisholm, Marco Polo, and Kublai Khan.

The first movie went from the Stone Age to the French Revolution, which is a lot of time. So far, it looks like the next series may take place in a shorter, more recent period. Part II will have 8 episodes, and each one will make fun of a different event.

Brooks is excited to come back and talk about more historical facts. He told Variety, “I cannot wait to share the actual truth about all of the fake stories that people have been tricked into thinking are History!”

A first look at the sequel series gave Entertainment Weekly a good idea of what to expect. The building of the Egyptian pyramids, this same American Civil War, and the Russian Revolution is all examples of things that happened.

During the Russian Revolution, there is a mythical figure named Schmuck Mudman who works as just a food deliveryman and might be planning stuff secret against the revolutionaries.

The real-life revolutionary Leon Trotsky also is set to show up, so it looks like the Russian Revolution will play a big role in the next series. Other historical figures shown include Shirley Chisholm, who in 1972 became the first Black woman to campaign for the presidency on the ticket of a major party.

At the end of the first movie, several sketches that were supposed to be in the second movie were shown. Some of these were “Hitler on Ice,” “Jews in Space,” as well as a funeral for a Viking. It’s not clear if any of these sketches will be in the new series, but one picture shows three commentators standing next to an ice rink and talking about one of history’s “vilest” leaders.

We have no idea what “World, Part 2” will entail. Most likely, we won’t know till the show is closer to being made. Brooks and his team poked fun at the Stone Age the fall of Rome the Spanish Inquisition as well as the French Revolution in the first movie.

Every major historical incident that’s occurred since that movie came out in 1981 is, of course, the fair game again for the new series, and we’ll all agree that 40 years is a long time to find things to make fun of.
