Coronavirus update: At the beginning of the nationwide lockdown, the government had made it clear that no school could ask for fees from parents during this period. But some schools continued to collect fees from parents even during this period. In this case, the Education Department today issued a show cause notice to three such private schools in Mohali where the parents of the children were being pressurized to deposit the fees.
Education Minister of Punjab Government, Vijay Inder Singla, had spoken of taking strict action against the schools which defied the orders of the Government. Singla told that Doon International School, Mohali; ATS Valley School, ATS Valley School, Dera Bassi; And Lawrence Senior Secondary School, Mohali; Show cause notices have been issued today.
Earlier, The Gurukul World School, Zirakpur and Mohali; Shishu Niketan School, Mohali; Sesame Street School, Sector 114, Mohali; And Convocation International School, Zirakpur; Notices have been issued seeking fee. The minister said that schools cannot ask students for transportation fees and book expenses for the next academic session until the lockdown is over.
He said that the Education Department had issued an order on 23 March asking all private schools in the state to reschedule their admission process for 2020-21. He said that the schools have been directed to provide a period of at least 30 days to collect the fee after the situation becomes normal.
