After the green light obtained from the production and with George Miller that will focus on the film once its next project is completed, Warner Bros. has finally chosen the release date of Angry, or the prequel / spin-off of Mad Max: Fury Road entirely dedicated to the character already played by Charlize Theron and here with Anya Taylor-Joy.
After months of announcements, postponements and above all after the confirmation that the protagonist of the film will be Anya Taylor-Joy, a star now very launched both in the cinema and on the small screen, Warner has decided to position the release of Furiosa on June 23, 2023. This will allow Miller to take care of his next directing first, that is Three Thousand Years of Longing, starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.
Miller himself confirmed that the film on Furiosa will be in continuity with the Mad Max saga and is not to be considered a separate project: "They are not really strictly connected. Each of them is a new chapter in a saga about a rather archetypal character: the wanderer in the wasteland, in the fundamental search for meaning. It is a character that we see especially in classic westerns or in samurai stories, with the ronin. You can't actually put together a timeline of Mad Max movies. They were never conceived that way, because after I made the first one, I had no intention of making a second. Mad Max 2 was ultimately an attempt to do the things I couldn't do in the first one and so on. They are all independent films in many different ways".
From the cast of Angry Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will also participate in unspecified roles.
To support the director, on the technical side, there will be Colin Gibson (production designer), Margaret Sixel (editing), Ben Osmo (sound), Lesley Vanderwalt (makeup), all Oscar winners with Mad Max: Fury Road.
