Which are the G20 countries?

The G20 country is a group of 20 countries established in September 1999 as an international forum by finance ministers of the G7 countries that will help maintain international financial stability. The formation of this group helped to enable informal dialogue and cooperation between important countries in the world. The G20 stands for Group of Twenty and is the premier forum for economic cooperation of the G20 member countries.

The G20 members include 19 other countries including the European Union and India. The G20 countries represent about 85% of global GDP and more than 75% of global trade. What is a G20 summit?

Formally known as the 'Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy', the annual meeting of G20 members is called the G20 Summit. This year, the fifteenth such G20 summit is scheduled to take place in November in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. One of the major focus areas of the G20 summit is job creation and trade. It works closely with important organizations around the world. Recent editions of the G20 summit focus on global issues that affect the economy, including macroeconomic and trade. Some of the issues addressed before climate change, health, migration, terrorism, water crisis etc. are included.

G20 Summit 2020 Theme

The theme of the fifteenth G20 summit is (Realizing Opportunities of the 21st Century for All).

It will focus on three objectives:

  1. Empower people by creating conditions in which everyone, especially women and youth, can live, work and be thrilled
  2. Protection of the pulnet: promoting collective efforts to protect our global commons
