What If…? Season 3 Storyline:

Due to SSR agent Peggy Carter’s choice to remain in the main theater of operations, Steve Rogers, the world’s first super-soldier, gets injured by a Hydra spy before he can receive the super-soldier serum during World War II.

Carter takes the spy’s life and gets the serum in return. SSR commander John Flynn has upgraded her but forbids her from engaging in warfare. Flynn grudgingly elevates her to the fighting position of “Captain Carter” when she successfully defends the Tesseract from Hydra using a vibranium shield developed by inventor Howard Stark. The “Hydra Stomper” is an armored, weaponized suit that Stark constructs using the Tesseract for Rogers to pilot.

Before Carter disappears while fighting a Hydra train, Carter and Rogers engage in a number of fights. When Carter and her comrades get into a Hydra stronghold and see Red Skull using the Tesseract to establish a portal and call an extraterrestrial entity that kills him, they realize they have located Rogers.

To drive the beast away, Carter enters the portal as it closes. Nearly 70 years later, the Tesseract activates a new portal, through which Carter emerges and encounters Clint Barton and Nick Fury.

When a Celestial named Ego sends the Ravagers to Earth in 1988 to recover his son Peter Quill, they accidentally kidnap a young T’Challa from Wakanda. Twenty years later, T’Challa has evolved into the well-known interplanetary mercenary “Star-Lord” & has been persuaded by Yondu Udonta, the leader of the Ravagers, that Wakanda has been destroyed.

Nebula approaches the Ravagers with the idea of robbing Taneleer Tivan of the Embers of Genesis, a cosmic relic that can end the hunger of the galaxy. They provide him with the Power Stone at Tivan’s command center on Knowhere as a diversion.

T’Challa searches for the Embers in the meanwhile, but instead he discovers a Wakandan spaceship that was looking for him. Nebula seems to betray the trapped Ravagers, but this is really another trick to get the Embers.

Carina, Tivan’s slave, saves T’Challa and aids the Ravagers in taking down Tivan. They go back to Wakanda so that T’Challa may be reunited with his family after T’Challa pardons Udonta for lying about the country. Ego approaches Quill, a janitor at Dairy Queen, at another location.

Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury makes many efforts to enlist heroes for the Avengers Initiative over the course of a week, but they are all suddenly killed: Clint Barton unintentionally shoots Thor and dies in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody; Bruce Banner/HHulk explodes; Natasha Romanoff unexpectedly injects Tony Stark with his untimely death; Romanoff is assaulted and murdered while looking into the other murders.

Romanoff informs Fury that the killings are connected to “hope” before she passes away. The Asgardians, commanded by Loki, come to Earth to get revenge on Thor, but Fury suggests working together to find the murderer.

Fury surmises that the killer is Hank Pym, who has been using his shrinking technology to carry out the killings as retaliation for the passing of his daughter Hope van Dyne, who died while serving the S.H.I.E.L.D. as an agent. Pym is defeated by Fury and Loki and then brought into Asgardian prison.

Loki decides to remain on Earth and takes over as its king. Fury starts to gather additional heroes, discovers Steve Rogers imprisoned in ice, and calls Carol Danvers to the planet.

Dr. Stephen Strange visits Kamar-Taj to study the Mystic Arts after loosing his girlfriend, Dr. Christine Palmer, in a car accident. The Ancient One and Wong caution him against using the Eye of Agamotto, which has the ability to change time, since doing so may alter reality.

Palmer continues to die despite Strange’s repeated efforts to utilize the Eye to rescue her two years later. Strange rejects the Ancient One’s warning that Palmer’s passing marked a “absolute point” in time that could not be changed.

The Ancient One divides Strange into two different forms using the Dark Dimension’s power: one accepts Palmer’s death, while the other gains strength by ingesting magical creatures to become Strange Supreme.

The evil version of Strange defeats the good one, absorbs him, and employs his might to bring Palmer back to life while shattering reality. The Watcher is begged for assistance by Strange Supreme, but he declines to step in. Palmer breaks down, the cosmos disintegrates, and Strange Supreme is left to mourn alone.
