We know when James Gunn you love to dialogue with your fans on social networks, both by responding to their curiosities and by fueling their desire to know about the next films that the director will present in the coming months. His engagement with The Suicide Squad for Warner, Gunn will return to Marvel for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
In the course of some stories shared on his Instagram profile, in fact, Gunn has confirmed that a main character of the franchise who died previously will not return: we are talking about the adult version of Big. In fact, a fan asked the director: "I miss the adult form of Groot, will we see him again in that form soon?". James Gunn's answer was categorical and definitive:"Unfortunately that original Groot is no longer with us, so unless a prequel of some kind is made we won't see it again".
Gunn had previously expressed his opinion regarding character deaths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: "For me there is a difference between a meaningful death and plot twist deaths where someone looks dead and then it turns out they're not. But if you mean dead characters like Tony Stark and Yondu, resurrecting them would be a two-bit narrative trick.".
So, if anything in the future two characters like Tony Stark and Yondu were to resurrect, know that it may not have been at the behest of James Gunn.
Gunn finished post-production on The Suicide Squad and immediately returned to work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which should be directly related to Thor: Love and Thunder, given the presence of several Guardians in Taika Waititi's film. The director will begin principal photography on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film in the UK in the second half of 2021.
