After Life Story
Tony Johnson, a newspaper reporter in the made-up town of Tambury, has his world flipped upside down when his wife dies of breast cancer. Instead of ending his life, he makes up his mind to exact revenge on the world for the loss of his wife by doing and saying anything he wants, despite of the consequences.
He considers this to be his “superpower,” but his strategy falls apart when he finds he really cares about certain people. Over the course of the show, he gives up trying to be horrible and, although never getting over his wife’s loss and continuing to be suicidal, learns that helping people and being there for them is where his life finds its true purpose.

After Life Season 4 Plot
After Life’s third season ended on a cliffhanger, thus it seems sense that a “10 years later” catch-up special, similar to Ricky Gervais’s The Office, Extras, and Derek, would air on Netflix instead of as a complete season. The After Life reboot might also be a film in the manner of Life on the Road, starring David Brent.
Time must have passed in After Life’s universe in some fashion, and when the story resumes, we’ll get to see how the passage of time has affected Tony’s grief, whether or not the postman brought true love to Kath, and whether or not the Tambury Gazette has survived the decline of print media.
Tony’s romance with Ashley Jensen’s Emma is a thread that might be picked back up. There was potential for romance, but Tony wasn’t emotionally prepared for another commitment. With a 10-year pause between seasons 3 and 4, romance has a chance to develop in After Life.
