The undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, recognized this afternoon from the National Palace that there will be a regrowth of COVID-19 infections when mobility is reactivated, and despite this, it is impossible to continue under confinement.

At the afternoon conference, the official recalled that there are eight days left until the end of the National Day of Healthy Distance, and that from the first of June the phase called "New normal”, Made up of a series of measures that may or may not be carried out in public spaces.

He pointed out that citizens must follow sanitary measures despite the end of the contingency, since the coronavirus remains latent and there is no cure or vaccine to combat it.

"Any population at the time that mobility increases, has the highest probability of having higher infections and this is proportional, the greater the mobility and the greater number of people on the move in public spaces, the greater the resurgence of infectionsLópez-Gatell said.

"It is not guaranteed in any way, neither in Mexico nor in any country in the world, that at the time the reopening begins, it can be guaranteed that there will be no regrowth (...) at the time the reopening begins we will to have regrowth experiences, that is very clear, but it is impossible, undesirable, inconvenient, potentially very harmful, to pretend that the state of immobility can be maintained for too long times"He added.

The official recalled the experience that other countries have had in reopening their economic activities, who have also had flare-ups, pointing out that Mexico must follow suit, and start doing your own careful return trials.

He said that because of that, the return to activities will be staggered and under careful supervisionIn such a way that as soon as the authorities notice an abrupt change in infections, mobility will again be reduced to care for the population.

The "New normal" It will have strict rules to continue controlling the coronavirus epidemic, in which various activities will be carried out in the Valley of Mexico.

This plan will be based on a traffic light that will mark what can be done, for it, the Ministry of Health will announce weekly in which color each state of the Republic is located, determining which entity can reactivate its activities and which cannot.

The foregoing will be adequate as the case may be, since the cases of contagion and death do not vary considerably from state to state.

For example, until today the Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Baja California lead the list and they are the red foci of infection, while Colima, Durango, and Zacatecas, are the three with the lowest number of accumulated infections.

In addition, this day Tabasco entered the list of entities with more than 3,000 cases of registered infections.

At the national level, Mexico registered a new record of infections, since from yesterday to today, they were confirmed 3,329 new cases, of which 906 are active, leaving a total figure of 65,856.

For his part, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador compared the number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic with that of other countries to counter what he called "Yellow campaign" from some sector of the press and "fools who want the country to do poorly."

He noted that preventive measures of healthy distance managed to flatten the curve and prevented more deaths.

“We are in the highest in the Valley of Mexico, but we are going to start descending. These days they are going to be the most difficult, the most painful, especially due to deaths, "said the president.
