How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift Season 2 Storyline:

To put it mildly, high school student Hibiki Sakura has an insatiable hunger. She is, to put it bluntly, a very greedy character. She is embarrassed by her habits and worries that they will make her appear less attractive, so her friend Ayaka Uehara makes sure to warn her whenever she gets the chance that her waistline is growing rapidly. The Silverman Gym is Hibiki’s new gym.

There she meets Akemi Soryouin, the president of the student council and an honorary idol at her school. Unfortunately, Hibiki loses her drive when she sees that the gym is attended by well-known bodybuilding pros and by Akemi, who has an intense crush on muscles.

She is interrupted by 1 of the instructors, Naruzo Machio, who reassures her the she will achieve her goal if she works hard enough. In an effort to reach her goal and maybe wow Machio and adjust to her new way of life, Hibiki, who is now completely smitten with her coach, decides to dive headfirst into the realm of fitness & toned form.

The comedy is both entertaining and well-crafted, touching on all the right topics from different perspectives. Everything from the tone to the ambiance to the characters to the visual humor works so well together that it doesn’t seem forced.

Aspirations for becoming muscle idols and a ridiculous arm-wrestling tournament that will break your ribs (yes, I said it!) are sure to make everyone chuckle.

In order to avoid a copyright strike, the show employs all of the methods outlined in the books, such as naming the supporting characters after great people (Barnold Shortsinator, Jason Sgatham, Comrade Poutine) or Machio referring to Fist of the North Star as “the world’s first muscle manga” while cosplaying as Kenshiro.

As they make their way home from Koyo Women’s Academy, Ayaka Uehara remarks on Hibiki’s weight increase and proposes that she try dieting.

When Hibiki visits the Silverman Gym a week later, she finds that her classmate Akemi Soryuin is also interested in becoming a member. Upon seeing one of the instruction rooms, Akemi is immediately compelled to join after seeing that every one of the participants are buff.

One of the instructors, Naruzo Machio, presents himself to Hibiki, and she decides to join him. Machio gives them the go-ahead to attempt the bench press the next day. Machio consoles Hibiki as she goes to unwind.

His buffed-up form becomes apparent as he suddenly strikes a stance. While Hibiki is in school, Ayaka observes that she is still putting on weight and that she is in pain from working out.

Machio tells Hibiki to attempt squats later on. Akemi finds out that Hibiki enjoys food after training. After Hibiki spills the beans about her daily calorie intake, Akemi gushes over her and expresses her desire to have them to become powerful and masculine side by side.

While at the gym, Hibiki takes a weight and finds that she has continued to put on weight. After Hibiki consults Machio for weight loss tips, Akemi suggests the Lat Pulldown Machine.

Akemi provides Hibiki more protein when they attend the gym’s bar after utilizing it. After some convincing, Akemi gets Hibiki to hit the pool the next day for some workout. Soon after, Hibiki & Ayaka are engrossed in a film in Ayaka’s residence.

In the midst of their movie marathon, Ayaka’s sister Nana approaches her and begs her to invite Hibiki along as well. The fact that the Glory facility, a boxing facility owned by Ayaka’s family, is news to Hibiki.

Their father instructed them in boxing, according to Nana. Hibiki comments on Ayaka’s toned body and wants to know her workout routine when she pauses for a minute to relax.

Some of the activities that Ayaka undertakes are described to her. Following this, Nana recommends that Hibiki give the punching bag a go. The bag rips apart as she strikes it.

Best friends and movie co-stars, Ayaka and Hibiki are inseparable. At Ayaka’s house, Hibiki and Ayaka’s sister Nana were enjoying a movie when Nana needed Hibiki’s assistance with something.

At Ayaka’s residence, Hibiki observed the boxing room. Nana has Hibiki pound a punching bag, and much to her astonishment, the bag breaks and tumbles to the floor.

Afterwards, she visits the gym, where she meets her trainer, Machio, & develops strong feelings for him. This encourages her to exercise more effectively.

As she fights to lose weight, she discovers a gift she never knew she had. Combat sports are a natural fit for her. This has a profound impact on her life.
