Mexico reaches a new record, totaling 6,989 deaths and 62,527 infections by COVID-19

The general director of Epidemiology, José Luis Alomía Zegarra, reported that at the cut of this May 22, add 6,989 deaths, 62,527 accumulated confirmed cases and 13,347 active infections of COVID-19, reaching a new record.

The official also reported that there are 113,742 negative cases and 33,801 are suspects, out of a total of 210,070 tests carried out up to this day 61 of the National Day of Healthy Distance.

The Mexico City and the State of Mexico top the list of entities with the highest number of SARS-CoV-2 infections and deaths. By contrast, Zacatecas, Durango, and Colima, are the three with the lowest number of deaths.

This day there are 814 suspected deaths, which could add to the total number of deaths from COVID-19.

According to the figures of the past days, infections have increased exponentially, going from 54,346 on May 19 to 59,567 yesterday and this afternoon to 62,527.

Although the pandemic curve continues to rise, the federal government's plans are still in place, to begin with staggered activities from June 1.

This morning the President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was questioned about the increase in infections by COVID-19, as well as the increase in deaths, to which he replied that everything "goes according to what was projected."

In addition, he emphasized that the alarms should not be dropped nor should comparisons be made with other countries with a smaller population.
