The character played by Lewis Tan in the next reboot of Mortal Kombat, Cole Young, may actually be Johnny Cage. The release date of the film is April 16, simultaneously in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. The theory that Johnny Cage actually hides behind Cole Young is dictated above all by the centrality of the character.
Cole Young is indeed an original character compared to those fans know from the video game and Johnny Cage's surprising absence from the film's character roster has raised some suspicion among fans.
Despite the presence of iconic profiles such as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Shang Tsung, Sonya Blade, Jax, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and many others, the absence of Johnny Cage could not go unnoticed.
Unless of course it's not there at all Johnny Cage behind the identity of Cole Young. According to the official Mortal Kombat synopsis, Cole Young is an MMA fighter who gets involved in the tournament to defend Earthrealm, and the character's own background could work for the creation of a new origin for Johnny.
After his career as Johnny Cage fell through, the character may have returned to be called by his real name, Cole Young. Anything is possible but for the moment it is only a theory.
