A Mediterranean-based luxury cruise is the setting for The Good Ship Murder. When 1 of the passengers dies, Kate turns to Jack, a former police officer, for assistance in solving the murder.

Jack takes on spectacular acts as well, while Kate is intent on climbing the corporate ladder; the improbable duo works together. The truth behind Vida’s false claim of penning the song’s lyrics to her biggest hit is eventually revealed to have been stolen from an unnamed artist by her management. Their investigation into Vida’s history leads them away from their first suspect.
Following Kate’s engagement, their relationship takes a turn for the worst. Jack performs a song for the crowd as the program concludes, and the mystery is finally answered.
