According to the new, more comprehensive data, put together by a Variety report, which compared different analytics services, Justice League di Zack Snyder performed very well on HBO Max since its debut, but still below expectations and anything but stratospheric.
Of course, these are not official numbers because HBO Max, like other streaming services, remains quite secretive about their 'dirty laundry', but Variety had access to the data collected by several analytics companies and reported an overview of the situation.
For example, according to TVision, the MonsterVerse movie Godzilla vs Kong attracted more viewers for HBO Max than any other release apart to Wonder Woman 1984, which facilitated the Christmas release was the film with the most views both in its debut week and the following week. For 2021, however, the Legendary Pictures co-production with the two iconic monsters had the better of all the other films released so far on HBO Max, including Zack Snyder's Justice League.
The report also notes that the release week of Judas and the Black Messiah - which will be released in Italy this week thanks to Warner Bros. - attracted more viewers than the film with Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher e Jason Momoa. Zack Snyder's cinecomic hit a notable peak at the end of last March, but in terms of viewers on HBO Max was beaten by Wonder Woman 1984 and also led fewer new subscribers than Roku, platform where HBO Max was launched at the end of December 2020.
Variety also received data from Reelgood, which it looked into the three-day debut windows of the top 100 movies watched on HBO Max. Once again, Godzilla vs Kong got the better of it, with 8.1% of the total audience. Justice League finished third again, with 6.3% of viewers during its debut window, surpassed by 7.4% of Until the last clue, which premiered on HBO Max in January.
