All Creatures Great and Small Season 5 Storyline:

Season 3 of the hit program All Creatures Great and Small features many weddings and the medical care of aging animals. The first episode takes place in a spring of 1939, as James and Helen’s wedding approaches.

Though we hope things goes well, pressure is considerable for James as he not just has a new wife to worry for along with a stake in the firm. Even if his veterinarian business might grow if he followed the government’s plan to test animals for TB, doing so may anger local farmers.

Yes! All Creatures Great and Small is based on a series of novels by James Alfred “Alf” Wight, writing as James Herriot, about his time as a veterinary surgeon in the 1930s and 1950s, respectively, in the Yorkshire Dales.

The first book in the series is If Only They Could Talk. Both the 1975 film adaptation of the novel and its 1976 sequel, All Creatures Great & Small, are based on the books.

The same name was also given to a British television series that premiered in 1978 and continued for 90 episodes until 1990. The present-day PBS series serves as a prequel to the first series and novel.

The entire series is set in 1940, with Winston Churchill being Prime Minister. There’s no marital strife between James and Helen. But with Tristan gone fighting in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, Siegfried & James bring in some more hands to assist around the clinic.

Miss Harbottle, the very competent bookkeeper, and Richard Carmody, the diligent undergraduate vet student, are two of the new individuals we meet.

“Picking up in the spring of 1940 with changes on the horizon for everybody in Skeldale House,” the producers tease. James and Helen are thinking long and hard about having a family because of his possible draft into the RAF.

Siegfried, the head of the expanding family and the only survivor of Tristan’s departure, struggles to maintain order and composure in the face of this terrifying new reality.

Mrs. Hall and Helen’s relationship flourishes as they plan for the future, but things become complicated when veterinary student trainee Richard Carmody moves in next door.

The new episodes are set in 1940, when Churchill has just become prime minister and tensions in Europe are rising. While Tristan is out fighting in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, James and Siegfried have to hire more help since they are “happily married” to Helen and have a lot on their plates. There will be some tension when the new components are implemented.

Executive producer Susanne Simpson of Masterpiece commented, “I am excited for the audience to see the forthcoming season of All Creatures Great and Small.” “It continue to be full of the warmth & humor that has rendered it one of the most successful shows ever.”

In addition, Sir Colin Callender CBE, executive producer and CEO of Playground, said, “We are happy to be returning in the lovely Yorkshire Dales for another season of family, community, as well as of course, animal antics. Everyone on our fantastic cast and crew is overjoyed to be back for another round of adapting James Herriot’s optimistic and heartwarming tales.
