During one of his countless social interventions, the director and screenwriter James Gunn explained why the choice for the role of Peacemaker in his new film The Suicide Squad relapsed on John Cena, WWE superstar with very little film experience.
The faith placed in the wrestler, however, must have paid off, as it has been announced that Cena will return as Peacemaker in a spin-off TV series of the same name to be released on HBO Max in 2022. And right from the set of the spin-off, filming of which is currently underway, Gunn took advantage of a break to answer questions from fans on Instagram.
One of these questions was: "Why did you decide to bet on John Cena?"The director replied:"I loved him in Trainwreck and worked hard to find a role that suited him".
For the uninitiated, Peacemaker is a character originally born under the label of Charlton Comics, subsequently acquired by DC Comics. It is also the character who Alan Moore used it as one of the starting points for the preliminary ideas of the comic Watchmen, later renamed The Comedian and played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the film adaptation of Zack Snyder's Watchmen.
If you are looking for more insights on The Suicide Squad, here is the official synopsis. We remind you that the film is arriving on HBO Max from 5 August next: in Italy, should the cinema shutters still be lowered by then, it is very likely that it will arrive digitally as it has been and will be for other Warner Bros. movies such as Wonder Woman 1984, Until the last clue e Justice League.
