The Enfield Poltergeist Season 2 Storyline:
Grosse made the smart choice to record everything on tape after he decided to move into the 284 Green Street council home in suburban London, in which two young girls seemed to be acting strangely.
At the time, Janet and Margaret Hodgson were eleven and thirteen years old. They lived with their single mom, Peggy, and an older brother who is almost never seen.
They said they saw both small and large items being knocked over as they heard sounds that ranged from loud bangs to well-timed knocks. It was before a ghost name Bill took over the body and thoughts of young Janet.
The events are reenacted by director Jerry Rothwell in a set house that looks just like the Hodson’s’. He often opens up the frame to show the whole set, including lights, props, rigs, and everything else you’d see in a normal movie, particularly one as bad as The Conjuring 2. Like the show says, a little space always helps put things in perspective.
The official description from Apple TV+ says that the story is based on one of the most famous poltergeist cases in recent memory. An engineer named Maurice Grosse steps in when a number of scary things start happening in the Hodgson family as it looks like Janet, who is 11 years old, is the target.
People start to talk about it, though, and many spiritual hunters and scientists show up to the residence to write down what they see and experience it for themselves.
Watching these events happen on what looks like a movie set adds to the feeling of fakery that Wes Anderson so skillfully caught in his most recent four Netflix movies. And this is what Grosse’s enemies mostly said he did.
He was so determined to show that the haunting wasn’t a hoax that he wouldn’t listen to other people’s opinions, even those of his coworkers at the real Society of Psychical Research.
A lot of them are talking heads on the show, along with Janet as well as Margaret, their family and friends, and a lot of other people who are either directly or indirectly involved with the events.
Ed and Lorraine Warren, who play the shady main characters in the Conjuring movies, only show up quickly in episode three, which is a relief. Interestingly, not a single church member shows up at any one point, either to do an exorcism or just teach Janet as well as her sister regarding the tricks of the devil.
It seems like this kind of thing only happens to faithful Catholics or people who really believe in organized religion. But from the very beginning of the show, it’s clear that this wasn’t a case of demon possession at all, just poltergeist behavior.
In 1977, a house in an area of London that kept hearing strange noises got a lot of attention from the media around the world. Peggy Hodgson, a single mother, as well as her daughters, Margaret, 13, as well as Janet, 11, would have very strange things happen in their house, like furniture being thrown around, knocks on the doors that they couldn’t explain, sounds that didn’t seem to come from anywhere, and a lot more. In no time, they would be sure that it was a poltergeist doing it and that everything else was also supernatural.
When local police started to see what was going on, the situation became even more serious. Before anyone knew it, the house was covered in news stories and public attention. A new limit documentary miniseries is based on the same case and basically tells the same story over again.
