In the course of an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, it was announced that Nickelodeon prepares to throw the Avatar Studios, a new division to create original content based on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender e The Legend of Korra.
During the presentation of ViacomCBS for Investor Day, the original creators of the series as well as executive producers Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have been announced to the studio as co-chief creative officers, and the first project is already in the pipeline: an animated motion picture film whose production will start this year.
In an exclusive statement to EW, DiMartino and Konietzko expressed their enthusiasm about the "development of our franchise and its storytelling on a large scale, development that will expand in a myriad of different and exciting ways. It's hard to believe it's been 19 years since we created Avatar: The Last Airbender, but even after all that time, there are still many stories and time eras in the world of Aang that we are eager to create and explore. We are fortunate to have an ever-growing community of fans who love the Avatarverse as much as we do".
DiMartino and Konietzko concluded: "We are thrilled to be returning to the Nickelodeon home where Avatar began. We can't wait to turn our fantasy into reality."
