The Peripheral is a fascinating and fun program to watch, despite being a drama that requires great attention to detail.

Finally, it comes to a dramatic, unexpected conclusion that does precisely what it was intended to do: make you want more.

How did Flynne (Chloe Grace Moretz) end up? Exists she still? Will Wilf (Gary Carr) be willing to accept the veracity of Aelita’s findings, and can Burton (Jack Reynor) forgive Conner (Eli Goree) for his actions?

There is so much to explore, and we have only just begun to scratch the surface of what happened in the series finale.

The show’s creators, Lisa Joy & Jonathan Nolan, are undoubtedly considering a second season given that premise, but will we really see one?

The Peripheral Season 2 Storyline:

When Aelita West entered the Research Center director Dr. Cherise Nuland’s hidden basement using a peripheral powered by Flynne Fisher from 2032, her company suffered a breach of important information, according to season one of The Peripheral.

Cherise was most interested in the neural adjustment implant that R.I. had created that could change people’s behavior.

Cherise’s well-laid plan would probably come to an end if the Klept, Met, and general public reacted negatively if this secret was made known.

In the last episode of The Peripheral’s first season, Flynne finally assumes command and deals with Zubov, Cherise, and Jackpot.

Flynne covers her 2032 stub & relieves Cherise of her burden—at least temporarily—by creating a fresh splinter in the record with Inspector Ainsley Lowbeer of the Met.

The material environment of the periphery has been permanently changed, but the threat posed by the Research Institute is still very much there.

As The Peripheral season 1 comes to a close, the conflict between the R.I., Klept, and Met is intensifying, and Flynne is still positioned in the middle of that cozy group.

Boy, when Burton learns that Conner killed Flynne, he’ll be furious. Conner carried out Flynne’s orders to avert the looming catastrophe dubbed as the Jackpot, but Burton won’t be pleased.

There’s a possibility Burton won’t find out, given that Flynne planned her death to seem as if it was the Met Police’s doing.

However, secrets and lies often find a way to come to light, so we wouldn’t count on it being a secret for the foreseeable future.

The Jackpot may have been halted by Flynne’s efforts to prevent Cherise, the head of the Study Institute, from erasing the data inserted onto her brain earlier in the season, but for how long?

Cherise could still be determined to destroy that timeline as a brutal “just in case” precaution since she is anxious to make sure she has completely destroyed the data, which turned into bacterial DNA within Flynne.

While Flynne, from the alternate timeline, still possesses this priceless information in her DNA, Cherise may find it difficult to track her down.

We have full confidence that Cherise will find a way to uncover this new stub despite Flynne destroying the equipment that would have made it possible for her to do so.

Flynne, fortunately, is collaborating with the strong Inspector Ainsley, so she won’t be totally outmatched.

Speaking of new schedules, the presence of two 2032 stubs raises the possibility of some confusion.

Even though the original 2032 will no longer have Flynne, there will still be two Burtons, two Conners, two Tommys, etc., all of whom will be operating in unique situations while one group deals with Flynne’s loss and manages the chaos in her absence. It’s going to become quite psychedelic.

Lev, who was given the order to kill them all in the post-credits scene in order to hide his tracks, will have to deal with both 2032 stub versions of the Fisher brigade (including Wilf and Aelita). In their world, it literally pours when it rains.
