Twilight of the Dead, Romero’s unfinished film is coming: it will close the zombie saga

Before leaving us in 2017, George A. Romero was secretly working on the last chapter of his zombie saga inaugurated in 1968 with the legendary Night of the Living Dead. Titled Twilight of the Dead, the film will finally come to life thanks to the artist’s wife.

As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, the late director’s wife has been working on the script for the film for some time together with some screenwriters, and now she is looking for a director to whom to entrust the project. Romero wrote Twilight of the Dead with Italian Paolo Zelati, who is now collaborating with Joe Knetter and Robert L. Lucas to complete the script.

“I gave him my full blessing as long as I could be there every step of the way to stay true to George’s vision.” said Suzanne Romero. “We got a solid treatment and the first part of the script. I can say 100% that George would have been incredibly happy to see it continue. He wanted this to be his last stamp on the zombie genre.”

This the short description of the film provided by the artist’s wife: “The story is set in a decimated world. Life has all but disappeared. But there may still be hope for humanity.”

Zelati stated in this regard: “It’s no secret that Diary and Survival weren’t the way he envisioned the series finale, and George knew it very well. Twilight of the Dead was his farewell to the genre he created, he wanted to end with a powerful movie. “
