A mysterious monolith incredibly similar to that symbol of 2001: A Space Odyssey was discovered in a remote part of Utah in the past few hours after being spotted by some government employees counting cattle from a helicopter.
The structure, estimated to be 10 to 12 feet high (about 3 meters), appeared to be planted in the ground. Made of some sort of metal, its sheen was in stark contrast to the huge red rocks that surrounded it, which made for immediate sighting. The Utah highway patrol shared the images of the monolith, you can find them in the post at the bottom of the article.
Helicopter pilot Bret Hutchings told local news channel KSLTV: "This was the strangest thing I have ever come across in all my years of flying". Hutchings was flying on behalf of the Utah Department of Public Safety, which generally helps natural resources officers count bighorn sheep in the southern state."One of the biologists spotted the object and we happened to fly directly over it"said Hutchings."It was like, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around!' And I said to him, 'What? What is it? 'And he,' There's this thing back there - we have to go see it! '".
Hutchings said the object looked man-made and appeared to have been planted firmly in the ground. "I guess there's a new wave artist or something behind it or, you know, some 2001: A Space Odyssey fan."Hutchings said. The monolith and the setting as a backdrop indeed they can't help but think of a famous scene from Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film, obviously with sheep instead of monkeys.
