Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything You Need to Know
People who watch Netflix know how stressful it can be to finish a new show or the great show and then have to wait for the next one. Fans of Vikings: Valhalla shouldn’t worry about this, since a final episode has already been made official (and filmed), so we know for sure that the following chapter in Bryn and Freydis’ Scandinavian saga will be coming soon.
Even though it’s early, and the second season just came out, we already know little about Vikings: Valhalla season 3. The things that happened in the last season could also help us guess what might happen next and, more importantly, when we’ll be able to watch it. That even includes a new character who is interesting and who fans of Viking history will know.

The second season starts after the fight for Kattegat, which crushed the heroes’ hopes and put them on different paths. Now that they are on the run in Scandinavia, they must decide how far they are willing to go to get what they want.
Without giving away too much, it’s a great season that will end up leaving you wanting more. So, when could fans look forward to season 3 coming to Netflix? Has filming for season 3 already begun? Here’s what we understand so far about season 3 of Vikings: Valhalla.
After just a long wait, Vikings: Valhalla’s second season is now on Netflix. Since the beginning, we’ve known that the show would have at least 3 seasons, so fans don’t have to worry about renewal. The show has already been filmed, and we expect it to come back sometime in 2023.
Leif Eriksson, Freyds Eirksdóttir, and Harald Sigurdsson still have more adventures to go on. Just 2 weeks after the initial season of Vikings: Valhalla aired, Netflix announced in March 2022 that the show had been picked up for Seasons 2 and 3.
After Kattegat falls, Leif, Freydis, and Harald are in the first episode of Season 2, which starts on January 12. They end up on the run in Scandinavia and have to figure out how to stay alive in a world other than the fjords of those who know. While Season 2 seems to be about “filling Leif’s toolbox” for living from outside Kattegat, show creator Jeb Stuart told Collider that later series will “eventually reach the New World.”
According to, the show was originally written as a story for more than one season, instead of coming up with new ideas every time it was renewed. Leo Suter, who plays Harald, said that having a “huge bird’s-eye view” of the show has been helpful. “Sometimes we have queries for Jeb, and he’s been willing to talk to us about our personalities. “How does this collaborate in this episode?” I ask. Then he’ll say, “Well, this or that will happen in Season 3,” Suter told Collider. “We’ve found it to be very helpful.”
Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 Release Date
Netflix hasn’t said when Season 3 would be available to watch. Entertainment Weekly says that in a statement from March 2022, Stuart said, “Work on Season 3 will begin soon.” In April, this same Irish Examiner said that the production had been going to look for extra features for Season 3 and also that filming would happen over the summer. Dramas on Netflix usually take only a year just to film and make, so season 3 could come out as soon as the summer of 2023.

Even though we know some things about season 3, we haven’t heard any official news about the Season 3 cast yet. But, as usual, humans think it’s likely that most of the central protagonists and series regulars will be back for a third season, too. Taking that into account, here is the possible cast, based on the reports.

Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 Plot
The new season picks up where the last one ended. Creator has invaded Kattegat, which makes it hard for Olaf to win the throne. Freydis and Harald, on the other hand, can choose to live somewhere else or fight again for the throne.
Valhalla’s third season will pick up plot threads from the second chapter that weren’t finished and move them forward. The goal is to leave things half-finished in case the show doesn’t get reauthorized again. During a recent Q&A, executive producer Jeb Stuart said that he would love to create a second trilogy that’d take Vikings: Valhalla the all way to season 6, but he is ready for things must go differently.
Expect season 3 of Vikings: Valhalla to pick up plot threads from the second chapter that weren’t resolved and move them forward, with just an eye toward leaving things half-wrapped up in case the show doesn’t get renewed for a fourth season. During a recent Q&A, Jeb Stuart, who is in charge of the show, said that he would adore creating a second trilogy that’d take Vikings: Valhalla to season 6, but he is ready for things to go differently.
“I hope we get the chance to finish a certain journey, but I think that parts one, two, as well as three are all good on their own,” he said. “I’m happy. I’m a nice kid. I get to tell a very cool story with a lot of fantastic action and characters, and I get to work with a cast and crew that I love. What’s the point of being upset?”
Even though it’s hard to guess what will happen next on Vikings, it’s clear that Leif but rather Harald will continue to broaden the show’s scope in Constantinople after Vikings: Valhalla season 2 ends. The second season makes it clear that Leif has changed. He is slowly becoming a Christian and wants to discover more about the world. He is ready to go to Mariam’s house inside the Byzantine city to learn more.
Harald, on the other hand, is not using his brain. He’s interested in Elena, the strange woman who went to Constantinople with him. It turns out that she is going to marry the Emperor, so if Harald wants to keep his head, he and she might have to keep their relationship a secret.
Freydis’s journey, on the other hand, is much less planned out. She has brought Kattegat peace (and, by definition, Canute and Forkbeard). Now that the fight is over, she can concentrate on taking care of her new baby son. But new dangers could come at any time. As the last person who still believes in pagan ways, she might have to lead a comeback against every new enemy if indeed the Vikings are in danger.
At last, Queen Emma does have Godwin in her grasp in London. The Earl of Wessex may well have gotten what he wanted when he manipulated his way into the marriage with Canute’s niece Gytha, but in the process, Emma found out secrets about his past. With this important information, which she could easily share with Canute, Godwin could become Emma’s attack dog if the politically unstable predicament in England starts to shift.
Even though Vikings: Valhalla has only been picked up for three seasons by Netflix, the show’s creator, Jeb Stuart, has said that he wants to end the Warrior era in 1066. “Most historians believe that 1066 marks the end of the time of the Vikings. I want to do that. I’ll need more than three episodes to do that. It would be the last thing to do. There’s a great deal of heritage out there, and all of these characters have grown a lot.”
History could also give us clues about what will happen in season 3. Harald is going to spend a great deal of time in Constantinople, which is a long way from his adored Norway. In an interview with Collider, the show’s creator, Jeb Stuart, said “change of culture” will constitute a big part of the show going forward.
“Because of the culture change, I knew Season 3 would be set in the New World,” Stuart taunted. “So, what does it have? How do we fill Leif’s toolbox, what does Freydis bring to capture these last people who still believe in the old religion? At that time, we know what was going on in Europe. So it makes us happy.”
