The A24 released the official trailer for The Green Knight, awaited the director’s new fantasy David Lowery out this summer starring Dev Patel in the role of the legendary Sir Gawain.
Inspired by the centuries-old Arthurian legend and written and directed by David Lowery, who is currently directing Peter Pan & Wendy for Disney, The Green Knight cast includes Ralph Ineson as the Green Knight, as well as Joel Edgerton, Alicia Vikander, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Erin Kellyman and Barry Keoghan in ruoli secondari.
The trailer focuses on the absolute presence of the Green Knight, in what appears to be a blend of fantasy sensibilities with particularly creepy undertones. Meanwhile, Patel’s Gawain seems to evolve from an idealistic young knight into a king crushed by the weight of his own crown.
Like so many films in recent months, The Green Knight was also due to be released in March 2020, initially a world premiere at SXSW was even planned but due to the pandemic it has been postponed indefinitely, and now the release date in American theaters is scheduled for next 30 July. The plot tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), the reckless and stubborn nephew of King Arthur, who embarks on a daring journey to face the Green Knight, a gigantic being with emerald skin, in order to prove his worth in the eyes of the their family and especially their subjects.
