Nothing is seen here. Two ordinary, 45-year-old guys purchased a Welsh football team in the hopes of restoring it to its former grandeur.
Here’s when it gets very interesting. These guys have shown on our televisions several times. We adore and are familiar with them.
They are Rob McElhenney from Ever Sunny in Philadelphia and Ryan Reynolds from Deadpool, and neither of them has ever managed a football team.
So how will this all turn out? Welcome to Wrexham, a new sports documentary on FX, aims to provide an answer to that question.
What are the requirements for owning and managing a football (not American football) team? Apparently, two former actors who are now business owners are passionate about the beautiful game.
And if there is anything more, Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and the audience are about to find out in the new Welcome to Wrexham FX docuseries.
The newest sports documentary series, produced by Boardwalk Pictures and Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort, follows the history of Wrexham A.F.C., the eldest Welsh football club, since the actors bought them in 2020. Reynolds and McElhenney play a real-life soccer club while channeling Ted Lasso.

Welcome To Wrexham Cast:
Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, John Henion, Andrew Fried, Nicholas Frenkel, Andrew Fried, Jordan Wynn, and Sarina Roma are among the Welcome to Wrexham film’s executive producers.
In collaboration with Boardwalk Pictures, DN2 Productions, FXP, RCG Productions, and 3 Arts Entertainment, the program started shooting in the UK and the US in December 2020. The production was handled by Reynolds’ production business, Maximum Effort.
The proprietors of the clubs are the only two prominent characters in Welcome to Wrexham. An accomplished actor with more than three decades of experience in the film industry, Ryan Reynolds is one of the proprietors of the Welsh football team. The X-Box series Deadpool, however, is what has recently increased his fame.
Rob McElhenney, his business partner and another club owner, will also be present. Known for playing Ronald in the television show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, McElhenney is also an actress. If the program is picked up for a second season, the two are anticipated to return.
Welcome To Wrexham Storyline:
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds made the decision to link up in September 2020 to buy Wrexham AFC, the third-older professional football team in the world and the oldest football club in Wales (since 1864) thanks to their partnership.
The two actors established RR McReynolds as a business to carry out the transaction. After a £2 million buyout, Ryan and Rob will control Wrexham by February 2021.
The initial episode of Welcome to Wrexham brings us back to this time, demonstrating the motivation for the purchase and the response of the neighborhood to the news.
We learn that the football team matters to the community since they have supported it during the same economic downturn that hit companies and individuals in Wrexham as a whole.
In 2008, Wrexham AFC, one of the top teams in its early years, was downgraded to a non-league team competing in the lowest of the English Football League’s five levels. The neighborhood depends on Rob & Ryan to restore their heyday.
Additionally, Ryan and Rob discussed how some of their favorite childhood memories of them together were around watching sports.
They were aware of the significance of the wager they were making and prepared to restore the pride of the people of Wrexham.
This docuseries features several residents and members of Wrexham AFC (commonly known as The Dragons), giving us the impression that this is not simply another tale of two renowned individuals operating a club for selfish reasons.
It’s about drive, kindness, effort, and cooperation. The season also includes a visit to Wales and other enjoyable events concerning the owners’ private life.
Welcome to Wrexham’s new episodes are all distinctive. We cannot predict what will happen to the squad, how a game will conclude, or how the public will respond.
The spectators at Racecourse Ground reflect the Dragons’ susceptibility to the same defeats, victories, and shocks that other teams encounter.
You’ll be amused by the obstacles, victories, pressures, and celebrations in Welcome to Wrexham.
This program is enjoyable regardless of your level of soccer fanaticism, but for those who are unfamiliar with the game or the English Football League structure, episode 1 has explanations.
