Based on the light novel series with the same name by Aneko Yusagi, The Rising of the Shield Hero is now an anime television series. Keigo Koyanagi composed the first season, Masahiro Suwa designed the characters, and Kevin Penkin scored the first season, all of which was produced by Kinema Citrus with direction by Takao Abo.

The season premiered on January 9, 2019, on AT-X, and concluded on June 26, 2019. There were 25 total episodes. In North America, the anime is available on Crunchyroll.

Seasons two and three of the show were confirmed at this year’s Crunchyroll Expo. The second season’s initial launch date of October 2021 was announced during 2020’s virtual Crunchyroll Expo, however it was eventually pushed back by six months.

Season two broadcast on AT-X and other networks from April 6 to June 29, 2022.Production was handled by Kinema Citrus & DR Movie, and although Masato Jinbo took over for Takao Abo as show director, the remainder of the cast and crew returned. Naofumi Iwatani & his group can’t afford to lose time; the next wave is due in a week. However, when the wave countdown stops due to an attack by bat familiars on Lurolona Village, the Four Cardinal Hero gather once again with Queen Mirelia Q.

He and three other people have been invited to a parallel universe. Naofumi’s tale begins out in this other universe. In this other reality, he must battle demons and creatures. In contrast to his everyday existence, Naofumi does not waste this chance. He seizes the chance, but trouble is still on the horizon.

Naofumi is the sole member of the four heroes who does not get a full set of weapons to combat the demons. Only the legendary shield is given to him. Naofumi’s journey does not end here; there is more sorrow to come.
