86 is an anime series based on the same-named light book series by Asato Asato and Shirabii. The series adaptation was announced during a livestream commemorating Kadokawa’s “Kimirano” light novel website’s one anniversary on March 15, 2020.

86 Season 2 Storyline:
The conflict between the Republic of San Magnolia and the Empire of Giad has been going on for nine years.
After suffering catastrophic losses at the hands of the Empire’s autonomous mechanized Legions, the Republic has lately developed its own autonomous units, known as Juggernauts, which are remote commanded by a handler.
While the general public first believes that the battle is being fought between machines, the Juggernauts are being piloted by individuals who are all “86”—the designation given to the Colorata minority of San Magnolia.
The Colorata were first given equal rights, but after being persecuted and exploited as scapegoats by the dominant Alba race & the Alba-supremacist Republic government, the Colorata came to be seen both officially and unofficially as subhuman.
The 86 were forced to take part in the Republic’s war against the Empire in return for better treatment, interned in camps in the 86th District (which retains their name), and refused the ability to acquire personal names.
An nobleman from Alba named Major Vladilena “Lena” Milizé serves as a police officer in the San Magnolian military and is a prominent opponent of the Republic government’s deplorable treatment of the Colorata minority in the nation.
She has been tasked with managing the Pioneer Squadron of the Eastern Front, an elite unit composed entirely of 86 veterans with illustrious names.
Shinei “The Undertaker” Nouzen is the commander of the infamous Spearhead Squadron. The handlers in control of the squad have turned deranged, and some have even committed suicide, which is why the squad is infamous for the state in which its superiors have been left.
Leading the contingent, Lena, a vocal supporter of the 86, gets to understand the Spearhead Squadron. The Republic and the war with the Empire are not what they initially seem to be, as Lena and Shinei both learn.

With the adversary, wide political themes that add depth and realism, and endearing characters that leave us wanting more, the book has just the right amount of interest.
Given that it was composed by Hiroyuki Sawano & Kohta Yamamoto, who also created the OST for AoT, the OST is superb, which is not surprise.
Additionally, the animation is superb. With our characters driving tank mechas that swing about like ODM gear, the action is a combination of AoT and Code Geass. CGI exists. However, the blending rivals Demon Slayer in strength.
Go watch the following beginning (a few spoilers; the first opening is OK) of this anime if you’re still debating whether or not to watch it. Currently, this initiative is the community’s best-kept secret.
