After a long hiatus after Avengers: Endgame, the Mighty Avengers will be back in theaters in 2026 in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. While we don’t know much about the plot just yet, The Kang Dynasty, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton of Shang-Chi, is shaping up to be the largest crossover event in Marvel Cinematic Universe history, pitting the most formidable heroes and villains against each other.
There is just no denying that there will be casualties. Marvel has postponed Avengers 5, formally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, in order to rework Phases Five and Six.
The next Avengers film is part of a double feature that will conclude The Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Secret Wars, which has also been postponed by one year due to many modifications.

According to Variety, the release date adjustments were caused by production delays and the current writer’s strike in Hollywood. These factors have affected several other films, including Avengers: Secret Wars, Thunderbolts, Deadpool 3, the Fantastic Four.

Despite having May 2, 2025 penciled in as the release date, Marvel moved The Kang Dynasty to May 1, 2026. So long as everything stays on track, it will launch after The Fantastic Four at the beginning of Phase 6 of the MCU.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2025) Storyline:
In the first season finale of Loki on Disney Plus, a version of Kang a familiar face to comic book readers made a cameo. Nevertheless, as said before, the first time we see Kang is in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania.
We find out during the film that several Kang versions have imprisoned Kang in the Quantum Realm; nevertheless, Scott Lang & Hope van Dyne ultimately kill him.
We encounter the Council of Kangs in the middle of the credits, headed by a variety dubbed Immortus. He has declared the Avengers a huge danger and convened a conference of all of the Kangs to plot their vengeance.
It seems that from now on, many variations will be included in MCU projects. For example, a Skrull version was introduced in Secret Invasion, while Victor Timely will be shown in Loki season 2. Because of this, the Secret Wars and the Kang Dynasty are likely to come to a head.
The director of Quantumania, Peyton Reed, has hinted that Kang will have a significant part in the MCU and that he “changes everything” there.
“It was decided halfway through production that we would be at the start of Phase 5,” he stated in a private conversation with RadioTimes.com. And I’m the one that always presses [Kevin] Feige for an explanation of the phase.

What if, instead of joining forces with our heroes, the villain is engaged in a civil war with each of his past selves? In light of this, how does the continuing Marvel Universe fare?
“Well, it affects everything that’s happening,” said he. Meanwhile, the Avengers—including Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and Loki are starting to realize that the multiverse even exists.
Additionally, according to sources, Marvel is looking to shift away from the Kang plot, which means that former writer Jeff Loveness, who told Inverse that “the promise of this film is to do the next batch of Avengers,” has also been dismissed from the project. There would be huge ramifications for the storyline if the rumor of Doctor Doom taking his position turned out to be true.
Observant fans have seen that Marvel withdrew trademarks for Eternity Saga, Nomad, & Runaways: New Era, but not for Avengers: Eternity Wars. This has led to speculation that Eternity Wars may replace The Kang Dynasty.
“Could Eternity Wars be an alternate title for The Kang Dynasty in case the need to toss out Majors?” asked one fan on X/Twitter in response to a post about the movie.
Marvel Studios has been very secretive about the narrative of “Avengers 5.” Nevertheless, hints are provided by its Kang-centric title and its location on the MCU schedule.
The sixth and final phase, “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027, will conclude what is widely believed to be a multiversal duology that begins with this film.
Reportedly delving into Kang’s past and his conquest throughout the universe, “Avengers 5” will most likely set the stage for the multiverse sequel. Majors portrays Kang.
After Avengers: Secret Wars, the universe Saga should officially conclude with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, bringing together all the loose ends from the several MCU universe stories in preparation for a massive confrontation with Jonathan Majors’ Council of Kangs. This Kang Dynasty isn’t an ending, but rather an escalation that, according to the revelation of Secret Wars and the original comic book arc’s relationship to the universe and incursions, sets up the ultimate enemies (or villains) of Avenger 6.
The threat posed by the Council of Kangs in the mid-credits sequence of Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantomania will be fulfilled by the Kang Dynasty. In the comics, Imports uses the Council of Kangs’s unity as a ploy to start a war beyond dimensions, which he eventually wins.
Taking control of the Multiverse and endangering the Sacred Timeline seems like a realistic goal for the Kangs in the MCU. Assuming that happens, the New Avengers would likely band together to wage a war even larger than the climactic battle in Endgame, against the many Kang variations depicted within the coliseum at the conclusion of Quantumania.

Due to its inclusion in MCU Phase 6, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will not hit theaters until the year 2025. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently set to premiere in cinemas on May 2, 2025.
