Workers in the health sector in Mexico have faced the coronavirus pandemic for months. As front-line soldiers in the bloody battle against the disease, they have also had to face other types of obstacles and bad drinks. Among them, the aggressions of the population covered by the "fear" of being infected and the constant lack of supplies that they had denounced since the first weeks of the pandemic.
That is why, the members of The National Union of Health Workers of Mexico called for an active strike on June 1 to demand adequate protection from the government to attend COVID-19.
Elements of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), the Institute of Social Security at the Service of State Workers (ISSSTE) and the federal Secretariat of Health, who are members of the organization that includes 15 states of the Republic.
In addition, propaganda to join social media began to circulate the protest that began this May 25 at the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INER), one of the main bastions in the fight against the coronavirus.
In accordance with Latinus, one of the main claims of the health sector is for what described as "abandonment" given the risky reality they live trying to cure COVID-19 patients.
However, for on the first day of June, a health personnel march is also plannedThis will be the main event of the protest, according to what Rafael Soto Cruz, a nurse at the Cardiology Hospital of the 21st Century National Center and spokesperson for the organization that called, told The Broken Chair.
According to Soto Cruz, of the total workforce comprising 2,200 workers, 107 were infected with coronavirus, while another seven are intubated and "there are a couple of deaths."
The protest seeks greater support from the federal government, led by Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), as it denounced that workers who catch it are not tested and are only sent to isolation.
He further denounced that the contagion of coronavirus is not being considered a workplace hazard, but as a general disease.
As in other cases, the health professional noted that the number of infections among staff is much higher than that published by government authorities, so they also ask for greater transparency in terms of the figures.
We find out because it is between us. Neither the delegates nor the institution make a statement. So, you no longer see Gatell saying: ´They are 10 more´, ´they are 20 more´, ´they are 15 ′ more´, but what we see a stone's throw away, the numbers don't add up
According to the medium, the Union is also requesting a list of the elements of the health sector that have died from COVID-19, detailing both the category and the hospitals, so that there is timely monitoring of the balance that the pandemic is leaving among workers in the sector.
On the other hand also they demand that there be a database of workers, audits of all institutions and that they immediately grant appropriate protective equipment.
