In Queens of Mystery, the titular trio of female mystery authors solve crimes, much to the chagrin of the police department. Matilda, the detective, and her aunts will tackle a fresh case every time. Despite her misgivings at first, they end up being more of a benefit than a drawback.
Actress Woodward recently spoke with Express.co.uk, where she discussed what first attracted her to the Queens of Mystery. She reflected on how weird the all-female cast seemed when she first heard about the project. In addition, there are three ladies of middle age, which is rather unique.
We’re accustomed to having perhaps a single middle-aged woman in a leading role, but here we have three! This is something I’ve always intended on doing, and I was overjoyed to have the chance to do it.
She said that during the initial week of shooting, there were many female cast members and crew members. “It’s an appropriate timing to be on the wrong side of 50 to be an actor,” Woodward said. According to Woodward, the pilot episode is the best since because it was “so exciting” & marked the “start of something.”
