Sex Education Season 4 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything You Need to Know

Attention students – The fourth season of Sex Education is on its way. The hit Netflix show is currently being filmed, which brings it one closer to our screens. So, even though we don’t know when the new show will come out for sure, there has been a lot of news about teen comedy.

First of all, we understand that we’ll have to pick up where Moordale Secondary left off. This means that Otis and his classmates will be going to a school in season 4. On the other hand, Maeve will be in the US with new fellow actor Dan Levy.

With a new high school come new people, and we’ve got the scoop on everyone who has changed. Read on for the most up-to-date information on that, as well as all the news about season 4’s plot and our best bet for when it will come out.

Even though Moordale High School is already a mess, the students will be back for a new period of Sex Education. The third season of the popular British comedy show on Netflix came out on September 17, 2021.

The educators of Moordale revolted against their new, strict head teacher, Hope. After a 19-month pause, fans of the show watched all eight episodes from Season 3 in one sitting. Now they want more.

Just a few days after Season 3 came out on Netflix, the company announced that Season 4 will be coming on September 25, 2021, during in the TUDUM global fan event.

The news was shown in a teaser that showed the Moordale High crest on the screen next to a picture of the school. Then, a breaking news broadcast came on and told us that there will be a fourth season.

Netflix has confirmed that there will be a fourth season of Sex Education, and it sounds like we won’t have to wait too long for it to come back.

Since it started airing in 2019, Laurie Nunn’s groundbreaking high school drama Sex Education has been one of our picks for the best Netflix shows. It wasn’t a surprise when Netflix renewed the show for a fourth season, given how quickly season 3 chance to shoot to the top of its most-viewed charts at the end of 2018.

We’re excited to go back to the hormone-filled halls of the show for season 4, especially since the end of season 3 left a lot of important questions unanswered.

Sex Education Season 4 Release Date

Since the first 3 seasons came out in 2019, 2020, and 2021, people thought that the next one would come out in 2022. Even though Sex Education was renewed in Sept. 2021, work on season 4 didn’t start until August 2022.

At the time this was written, the show was still being filmed, and the last episode was expected to air in February 2023. Then, we have to plan for the usual 6 months of post-production for this kind of show. That means, dear readers, that Season 4 of Sex Education won’t be on Netflix till at least August 2023.

Sex Education Season 4 Cast

Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Gillian Anderson, Aimee Lou Wood, and Mimi Keene will all be back for season 4 as Otis, Maeve, Eric, Jean, Aimee, and Ruby, respectively.

Connor Swindells (Adam), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson), and Mikael Persbrandt (Jakob), as well as most of the show’s new season 3 characters, like headteacher Hope (Jemima Kirke) and new student Cal, are also likely to come back (Dua Saleh).

In Sex Education, Patricia Allison will not be playing Ola again. In July, the actor told Capital Xtra that she “won’t be joining the team” for the fourth season of the show. He said she wanted to do “some other little things.”

The same must go for Sophie Ashley, who can’t come back as Olivia Hanan in the next season of Sex Education because she has to keep working on another Netflix show, Bridgerton. Rakhee Thakrar (Miss Sands) and Tanya Reynold (Lily) won’t be back, either, because they both have other projects they want to work on.

Emma Mackey’s character, Maeve Wiley, had an uncertain future for a while, but Radio Times says that Mackey is premiering for new seasons of the show. Since her character relocated to America just at end of 3, the Death on the Nile performer has affirmed that she will not appear “as consistently” as she did in previous seasons.

Still, since Mackey has been currently filming with Margot Robbie as well as Ryan Gosling for Greta Gerwig’s eagerly anticipated Barbie movie, enthusiasts should be glad that she hasn’t put her return to Sex Education on the back burner in favour of new Hollywood roles.

Ncuti Gatwa, who appears on the lineup card for Gerwig’s Barbie movie, has indeed been confirmed as the forthcoming Doctor Who. There was a small chance that he, too, could drop out of the upcoming episodes of Sex Education, but in August 2022, his participation was officially confirmed.

According to the casting call, a few new actors would be going to join Sex Education for season 4. Hopefully, they will have bigger roles than Jason Isaacs did in season 3, when he was barely used.

Sex Education Season 4 Plot

As Mackey herself has said, Maeve’s decision to go to America will affect her time on screen in season 4. It’s possible that Otis will have to get over his adoration for her for good, even though they were going to be together before Maeve left.

As a teaser summary for the next season of Sex Education, we can read: “In season 4 of Sex Education, Eric and Otis go to Cavendish Sixth Form College, which is student-led and not competitive.

Maeve is going to school at Wallace University in the United States. Otis wants her and is getting used to the fact that he is no longer an only child or the only counsellor on campus.” It looks like there will be a lot more heartache, then.

But it looks like other characters are in for an even rougher ride. Adam as well as Eric decided to break up after a season of ups and downs in their relationship.

Eric kissing another guy in Nigeria put the final nail in the coffin of a relationship that always seemed strangely balanced, given that Adam was still trying to figure out his own sexuality.

But in the later episodes of season 3, we saw Adam getting closer to Eric’s ex Rahim, which shows that a romance between both the two is not as impossible as it once seemed.

After what happened in the last season, it looks like things will change a bit in season four. Moordale High School seems to be closing down because investors pulled their money after the students protested against the new rules made by the head teacher, Hope.

Even though Maeve as well as Otis eventually got together during the third season, Maeve left for Usa before their connection could get going. We’ll have to queue and see if they try long-distance dating in season four or if things pick up when Maeve gets back to Moordale.

The official plot summary that Netflix has put out says: “After Moordale Secondary School closed, Otis and Eric have a new challenge ahead of them: their debut at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Eric is praying that they won’t lose again while Otis is worried about opening his new clinic.

“But Cavendish is a culture clash for all the Moordale students. They thought they have been progressive, but this new college is on a different level. There is yoga every day in the community garden, a strong focus on sustainability, and a group of children who are known for… being kind?!”

It gives: “The fact that the college is run by the students and isn’t competitive really throws Viv off, while Robinson is still trying to overcome Cal. Aimee tries stuff new by getting an A Level in Art, and Adam isn’t sure if he should go to a regular school.

“Maeve is living her dream in the United States, where she is a student at the prestigious Wallace University and is taught by iconic author Thomas Molloy. Otis wants her and is getting used to the fact that he is no longer an only kid at home or the sole therapist on campus.”
