The Ancient Magus Bride’s first season follows orphan Chise Hatori as she navigates a narrative that combines themes of dark fantasy, mystery, & the supernatural.
She puts herself up for auction in the hopes that someone would buy her after she is rejected by her family and her neighborhood. In the end, she was bought at auction for five million pounds by the Magus called Elias, who resembled a demon more than a person.
The developing relationship between Chise Hatori & Magus Elias Ainsworth will be central to the series’ storyline. This series appealed to me because it is the first time we have seen a person with a buffalo skeleton for a face and because Chise, a young teenage girl, may embrace him for who he is.
Both ideas gave me the same satisfaction. I’m reminded of Beauty & the Beast by this. However, on that front, the beast was considerably more dangerous to Belle than Elias was when they first met.
However, Elias was a gentleman throughout the whole process of purchasing Chise outside of the auction. In an effort to conclude on a more upbeat note, I’ll state that Chise and Elias were the prettiest pair ever and that Elias didn’t require lips to be the sort of person any lady or guy would want to have.
Elias & Chise were obviously intended to be a couple. And it was quite cute to see him constantly kiss Chise on the head with his skeletal buffalo head whenever they wanted to get near.

The teaser showed Chise adjusting to her circumstances and new life.
