He is punctual and reliable Variety to inform us today that the director of Birds of Prey with Margot Robbie, the talented Cathy Yan, was chosen by FilmNation (recently behind the success of Promising Young Woman) to write and direct The Freshening, new and intriguing sci-fi comedy.
In detail, it is a film adaptation of the homonymous story written by the author Rachel Khong and set in a futuristic America where citizens can freely take a drug capable of cure racism and sexism. As already mentioned, the author was hired to script and direct the project, which in addition FilmNation will be produced by Ali Wong, from Gary Sanchez Productions e from the Rewild label by Yan herself and by Ash Sarohia.
The director herself said: "The Freshening is exactly the kind of bold, timely film that excites me as much as a screenwriter and director. I am delighted to be able to work with collaborators who think exactly like me and Ash, from Ali Wong to FlimNation, to bring this bold and impactful story to the big screen.".
Wong also said: "The concept behind Rachel Kong's gripping story completely haunted me when I read it. The Freshening is unlike anything I've ever worked on and I'm really excited to be able to develop it with all these amazing people involved".
