The Larkins Season 3 Storyline:
Pop discovers that his rich competitor Alec Norman is standing for the position of “Master of Hounds” on the Horse & Hounds committee. Mariette tells Pop and Ma that she intends to relocate to France in the meanwhile.
Soon, Alec receives the honorific title of Master of Hounds. Pop meets Edith Pilchester after discovering that she has been asked to sell her cottage to a city-type person who plans to use it as a “weekend bolthole.”
Mariette decides to assist Primrose in her search for Eddie when Primrose discloses to her that she has a crush on a lad called Eddie who work at the traveling carnival. Pop buys a Rolls-Royce from the neighborhood actor Johnny Delamere in an effort to gain the respect of their neighbor.
When Edith’s prospective buyer shows up again, Pop implores her to embrace his offer. Mariette and Primrose find Eddie at the fair. With the Rolls-Royce & a book of literature, Ma tricks the talkative Vicar into believing Pop is a learned man, which the Vicar then spreads to the villagers as they get ready for the May Day fair.
Pop tells the buyer that because he controls the surrounding property and a fallen tree has blocked the path to Edith’s home, only he can provide access to the cottage. As a result, the buyer cancels the contract.
At the May Day carnival, Pop exhibits his generosity by purchasing several items from the charity auction & deceives Alec into competing for a painting of a seascape. Only after Alec has triumphed is its author, Montgomery Larkin, identified.
Alec loses his job as Master of Hounds after insulting the locals in a rage; Pop and Ma turn down the post, which is then granted to the Brigadier.
Until the conclusion of the summer, Mariette says she won’t be leaving for France. A stranger is waiting in the yard for the Larkins when they get back to the property. He introduces himself as a tax inspector.
