A kid at St. Sebastian High School named Payton Hobart resolves to vote in the presidential election just to live out his boyhood dream.
His goal is to become a politician, so winning the election for the student body is only the first step in that direction. However, there is a significant problem here. One and only River Barclay (David Corenswet), who is now seeing Astrid Sloan (Lucy Boynton), is Payton’s opponent.
Although Barclay is just carrying out Sloan’s plan, he still has feelings for Payton. His suicide causes strong emotions in the story because of how he felt about himself and Payton to the degree that he took his own life.
Payton keeps working to win the initial election of his life, not letting River’s death go to waste. The first season of The Politician is now mostly about entering politics and overcoming obstacles. Its main objective is to get Payton ready for an election that will be far more competitive then the one he is now facing.
