Hollywood is so dedicated to the idea of creating a successful franchise that they frequently start working on the next film in the series before the first one has even been launched. Sometimes, however, a film that seems like the unlikeliest or least probable candidate to launch a successful series really does just that.

The Purge 6 Storyline:
The season one finale sets up potential plot threads for the subsequent season. Miguel & Penelope have taken to the streets to defend the defenseless, while Pete the Cop keeps his tavern secure from the Purge’s violence. This is one possible angle that will be explored (along with the question of who made it through the initial season and those who didn’t).
Jenna and her newborn baby have reportedly relocated from the United States to Paris, where local news suggests that the European Union may soon institute its own Purge Night (at least Brexit saved us from that).
Producer Jason Blum has said, “We talked over whether we want to connect the television series to the movie and create a new Purge world.” This statement suggests that the two worlds may ultimately collide in subsequent seasons.
Blum said, “There are a few Easter eggs in this television series, but the series is completely new characters and in another universe where the Purge happens, apart from the movies. We put a lot of resources on developing fresh characters for the show, and maybe someday we’ll find a way to link them.
In June of 2021, Jason Blum, the film’s producer, announced his plans to create more Purge films as well as that he was in talks with DeMonaco to have him continue the plot.
The producer has indicated that he will not create any more without the involvement of the director. DeMonaco subsequently said that he always planned for The Forever Purge to be the series’ last installment.
The director said that one morning he awoke with a new concept that would allow him to “flip this thing upside so that we can continue…in a way that people can enjoy.”
DeMonaco has said that the success of the first film would determine whether or not the sequel is produced, although he has confirmed that he is at work on the screenplay.
In a conversation with Nightmare on Film Street published in September 2021, DeMonaco said that Frank Grillo will be returning to the character of Leo Barnes in Purge 6.
The plot features a global purge, an element he had planned for the third season of a series that has since been canceled. By September, both DeMonaco and Grillo had committed to returning for another installment of the series, with the former having also signed on to direct.
The film is set in 2059, ten years after the events of The Forever Purge, and will feature a different depiction of the dystopian “tribalized” America than that seen in that film.
It will also make reference to Escape from New York as an inspiration, and will follow Barnes as he is dispatched on a mission through different Purge states during the Second American Civil War.
Though James DeMonaco had previously said that last year’s The Forever Purge would be the last film in the series, he has now backtracked and hinted that he may have an additional Purge narrative to tell. The Scheme? Frank Grillo’s character, Leo Barnes, from The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year is being brought back for this film.
Last summer, DeMonaco told The Daily Dead, “I think I’m going to write the next one, if the audience demands it, we’ll do it.” “Again, I think I came up with a new way to flip the whole thing upside down,” he said. “It’ll be five years after [The Forever Purge], but it is taken America in a whole new direction, and I think it would make a very interesting place to explore.”
So, what’s the current status on that? Screen Rant has alerted us to a new update from Frank Grillo in the February 2023 edition of Empire Magazine.
In an interview with the magazine, Grillo said, “[I’ve] got an additional [Purge movie. The script is in James’s (DeMonaco) hands. Leo Barnes is the main character, and he hopes to take the helm on this project. We’re trying to get things done with Universal before I have to go into an elderly people’ home.
