What’s Wrong With That House Season 1 Storyline:
Kindergarten teacher Rebecca Adler (Robin Tunney), 29, suffers from aphasia and passes out in her classroom after having a seizure. Prior to learning knowing Rebecca is his cousin, Dr. James Wilson persuades Dr. Gregory House to accept the case.
House resists being forced to carry out his clinical responsibilities by Dr. Lisa Cuddy, but is compelled to when his permission for the MRI is revoked. Rebecca is given the diagnosis of cerebral vasculitis, and with treatment, she gets better.
Dr. Eric Foreman is persuaded to enter Rebecca’s home by House in order to discover what is causing Rebecca’s seizures. Rebecca experiences another seizure and abruptly loses her vision while at the hospital.
When Foreman finds ham at Rebecca’s home, he exposes both Wilson’s deception (Wilson is Jewish, but Rebecca isn’t, so the ham suggests both of them are not related) and the seizure’s true cause: tapeworms (specifically, a tapeworm larva lodged in Rebecca’s brain).
Dr. Robert Chase’s non-invasive X-ray, which shows a tapeworm larva embedded in Rebecca’s leg and supports their diagnosis, is used by House to convince Rebecca to seek treatment when she initially refuses.
After playing lacrosse at school, Dan (Scott Mechlowicz), a 16-year-old high school student, begins to experience frequent hallucinations and night terrors. After hearing a letter the Cameron wrote in Dr. House’s name, Dan’s parents take their son to see him.
House starts a wager to determine whether the family is his biological family as soon as he meets them. Dan is identified by House after he notices additional symptoms, such as a myoclonic twitch and a blood vessel blockage.
However, Dan experiences an auditory hallucination throughout a procedure, disproving House’s theory. House conducts an unauthorized paternity test using the parents’ coffee cups and learns that neither parent is biologically associated with Dan.
House experiences flashbacks to a case he handled earlier involving a mother who refused to have her child immunized and surmises that Dan is ill because he contracted the measles virus as a child. Dan is successfully treated by House after a retinal biopsy confirms his diagnosis.
Following having sex with his fiancée, Brandon (Kevin Zegers), a college student, passes out. His symptoms appear to be too many to be caused by a single illness. Both Foreman and House put forth different diagnoses, each claiming that his own theory more closely adheres to Occam’s Razor.
Then, however, Brandon’s white blood cell number falls, displacing both doctors. Brandon was accidentally given colchicine at the clinic pharmacy, according to House, which would account for all of his symptoms except for his cough.
No one thinks the pharmacist committed a mistake, but House administers the medication to Brandon, and he begins to feel better right away.
The source is revealed and House’s diagnosis is supported when House finds colchicine pills that resemble cough medicine after Brandon remarks that the old cough medicine didn’t have letters on it the way his current pills do.
