He and Miep connect by their shared experience as refugees; Miep, an Austrian, was adopted by a Dutch family as a kid to flee starvation. Margot and Anne, Otto’s daughters, and their spouses will shortly accompany him to Amsterdam.

A social worker Jan Gies and Miep fall in love and are married. The Nazis quickly occupied the Netherlands in 1940. Miep consents to assist the Frank family in 1942 while they hide in a secret attic flat above the Opekta headquarters.

Miep keeps Margot a secret from the other Franks after receiving a deportation order for her to a labor camp. Despite being upset that Miep failed to speak to him about the situation, Jan is ultimately pleased of her.

While the Franks take refuge in the flat in the attic, Miep and her coworkers continue to manage the offices. In order to trick the Nazis into thinking the Franks are in Switzerland, Otto has created a phony paper trail. Additionally hiding in the attic are Mr. Van Pels, Otto’s business partner, his wife, and their son Peter.

Jewish landlady Mrs. Stoppelman welcomes Alfred and Liddy, the children of Miep and Jan, and her daughter and son-in-law to remain in her house. As the rationing of food worsens, Miep and Jan are able to get the Franks & Van Pelses’ bogus identification documents.
