On October 2, 1988, disturbed youngster Donald “Donnie” Darko is taken outdoors while sleepwalking. Outside, he encounters a man called Frank dressed as a huge rabbit.
Frank informs Donnie that the end of the world will occur in exactly 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, & 12 seconds. The following morning, Donnie finds himself on the fairway of a nearby golf course.
