The OA Season 3: Release Date, Cast, Storyline, Trailer Release, and Everything You Need to Know

The OA is an American television series that combines aspects of science fiction, mystery, drama, and the fantastical. Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij serve as the show’s creator and executive producer, respectively. The total episode count for both seasons is 16. Both reviewers and viewers took to the program, as Season 1 scored 77% and Season 2 scored 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. There have been comparisons to the original Stranger Things on Netflix, which has a similar premise and location.

The show’s first season was met with mixed reviews, and viewers didn’t seem to connect with the story. However, the show’s second season was a critical and commercial success, and it’s now considered by many to be one of the best of 2019.

The OA Season 3 Renewal Status

The 22nd of March, 2019, saw the release of Season 2 of the series on Netflix. And we do not have good news to share with the faithful. After the second season, Netflix decided not to renew The OA for a third. The series’ popularity and critical reception make Netflix’s decision to cancel it all the more surprising.

The OA Season 3 Release Date

The series has been in development since 2012, when the creators first presented the concept to studios. On March 5, 2015, Netflix made the series official by ordering 8 episodes, each of which would last for around 60 minutes. The first season premiered on December 16, 2016, and the second premiered on March 22, 2019.

Netflix confirmed the show’s cancellation after two seasons on August 5, 2019, leaving viewers with a cliffhanger. The show’s creators expressed their “deep sadness” over the decision, while fans began the hashtags #SavetheOA and #OAisreal on Twitter and billboards in Times Square pleaded with the network to reconsider.

The OA Story

Prairie Johnson, an adopted teen who went missing for seven years and then reappears, is at the center of this drama series. Prairie, who was blind before she fled, can now see and introduces herself as “the OA” (an acronym for “original angel”) upon her return.

After initially refusing to tell the FBI or her adoptive parents about her past or how she regained her sight, the OA eventually forms a team of five locals (four high school kids and a teacher) to whom she gives this knowledge and her entire narrative. She ends by pleading for their assistance in finding the other missing persons, whom she says she can find by creating a dimensional rift.

In the second season, the OA travels to San Francisco from another realm in an effort to track down her old captor Hap and the other hostages she escaped with. Prairie meets private investigator Karim Washington and offers her assistance as he probes the mysterious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a young woman who may have been lured away by a haunted mansion and a computer game. When the OA’s five friends back in the original dimension experience a slew of misfortunes, they decide to take a road trip across the United States to help her.

The OA Season 3 Storyline

Season 3 of The OA will pick up where the dramatic cliffhanger left off, with Prairie and Hap venturing into yet another other reality. This time around they’re married actors filming a show about the afterlife, and they came from that world. Season 3 of The OA is shaping up to be quite meta, with the show’s actors adjusting to a world where their tale is a television show.

Meanwhile, Prairie’s companions in her own dimension seem to be learning how to cross dimensional barriers; their performance of the Movements likely saved Prairie’s life again, even if they don’t realize it. That storyline will also very likely go on.
