The Woman in The Wall Season 3 Storyline:
Lorna Brady (Wilson), a resident of the made-up Irish village of Kilkinure, finds a body in her home on the first morning of this six-part BBC drama.
Lorna has suffered from severe episodes of sleepwalking in the decades since she was imprisoned in a convent after giving birth to her daughter Agnes, who was then ruthlessly snatched from her. She has no idea whether she was involved in the murdering or not.
As a result, she can’t claim categorically that she had nothing to do with the woman’s murder, and when Officer Colman Akande (Daryl McCormack) enters her life for an apparently unrelated crime, he follows her about and soon the two find themselves intertwined in unanticipated ways.
Together, Colman and Lorna face their pasts and the shadowy side of Kilkinure as they investigate a murder and track for their missing daughter, respectively.
In The Woman in the Wall, we watch as Lorna Brady, a survivor of the Northern Ireland’s Magdalene Laundries, searches for answers about what became of her abducted daughter.
Although her life is fictitious, the Magdalene Laundries was genuine and are believed to have ruined the lives of hundreds of women.
Although these facilities have been there for longer, much of what is known about how they treated offenders who arrived via the criminal justice system, reform schools, and the health and social care sectors comes from the twentieth century.
Once inside, individuals would be expected to do unpaid work, and many ex-inmates have spoken out about being mistreated.
In the 1990s, a mass grave containing 155 remains was found on the former site of a Magdalene Laundry in Drumcondra, Dublin, sparking a media storm about the institutions.
In The Woman in the Wall, Ruth Wilson plays Lorna Brady, a resident of the made-up Irish village of Kilkinure who discovers a dead body in her home one morning.
Frightened to death, Lorna has no clue who the deceased lady is or whether she is even guilty of the alleged crime. Lorna’s sleepwalking is so severe that it has put her life in danger on many occasions, most recently when she was 15 and locked up at the Kilkinure Convent.
One of Ireland’s famed ‘Magdalene Laundries’ operated here, taking in women who had fallen from favor for a variety of reasons, from accusations of infidelity to unwed adolescent pregnancies.
A large number of people were abandoned once the Kilkinure Convent ultimately shut down. Others, like Lorna, were far less lucky than the few women who did survive to live reasonably regular lives. All the people who made it through agreed on one thing: they would never forget.
