Wingwomen is a Netflix original film starring and directed by Mélanie Laurent. We cover the storyline, characters, and trailer for the upcoming Netflix original series Wingwomen, which will premiere that November.

Mélanie Laurent will helm the next French Netflix original film Wingwomen, a criminal comedy. Both Cedric Anger & Christophe Deslandes contributed to the script. Jérôme Mulot, Florent Ruppert, & Bastien Vives are also cited as authors.

Alex (Adèle Exarchopoulos), exhausted after a night of roller skating and partying with not one but two handsome guys, comes to her rented villa and curls up next to her best friend Carole (Mélanie Laurent) in the morning.

Carole takes one glance at Alex’s face, badly battered on one side, with new wounds on her lip and eyebrow, & exclaims, “What happened to you?” Without raising his voice, Alex says, “It’s a big deal.” “I’ll tell you later.” They change the topic.

Alex never uses the phrase “Tell her later.” Getting into a hookup and coming home with not just bruises but wounds that are open is “no big deal” in what universe?

Wingwomen Movie Storyline:

Buddy humor with adrenaline adventure is well-trod, largely male-dominated turf. Certain outliers exist, however, with “Thelma & Louise” being most notable.

The events of “Wingwomen” do not play out like a smug, pompous course correction in which two “badass” women beat each other senseless.

Both Carole and Alex can kill with skill and cold efficiency. However, “Wingwomen” is surprisingly nuanced, displaying a genuine bond despite the absurdity of the situation.

Carole and Alex are expert thieves who work for their mysterious “Godmother” (the famous Isabelle Adjani), who picked them up from the streets & put them to work.

Carole is the cunning frontline thief, while Alex is a world-class sharpshooter. Their lives are so intertwined that they argue over groceries and give one other advice about their difficulties. (While dodging hostile drones and about to jump from a cliff, Alex complains about her unlucky love life and her penchant for choosing the wrong men.) But the tide is turning.

Both ladies want to escape their current precarious situations. The fairy godmother won’t release them that quickly. If they betrayed her in any way, she would have to murder them. The godmother gives them one more major assignment and says they may “retire” afterwards, but either Carole nor Alex believe her.

The last assignment is very challenging since it involves stealing blueprints in one location and weaponry stolen from a weapons dealer in another before traveling to Corsica to take “The Grand Odalisque” (not the classic Ingres picture, but the pop-art counterpart, by Martial Raysse). Godmother dismisses it as “kitsch” with disdain.

After her racing career ends, Carole and Alex employ Manon Bresch’s Sam to be their getaway driver. Since Sam is not a crook, Alex gives her a training montage to prove it.

“Alex & Carole, friends since childhood, have become (literally) partners in crime,” states the official storyline summary on Netflix’s website. But the attempt to take the Ingres picture The Grande Odalisque from the Louvre in Paris proves to big for the pair, so they call in Clarence, the son of a bureaucrat who has a price on his head, as well as a Mexican drug gang and an arms dealer.

Sam, a stunt biker and boxer by profession, is up next, and he uses tranquilizer darts recklessly. Alex, Carole, and Sam used soda can smoke bombs, rocket launchers, & hang gliders to set off a chain of events that led to a clash with the French Special Forces, & their rocky collaboration is now irreparably broken.
